Hi Everyone,

My name is Jeanette and I am new to this forum.  I was approved for the gastric bypass last October but my insurance turned me down as they do not cover anything to do with weight loss.  So over the last year off and on I have done some research on other procedures to see if there might be one that isn't so expensive.  I did fine Dr. Alveraz Colonia Burocratas, Piedras Negras, Coahuila .  I was wondering if anyone here has been too him and what they thought.  So far I have heard nothing but good things about him and his staff.

Also, I have been trying to find ways to raise money so I can get the surgery sometime this year.  If anyone is or was in the same boat can you let me know what you are doing/ did?  I am the only bread winner in my household and living paycheck to paycheck makes it hard to pay for large ticket items.   I do have one project in the works so I am hoping to see my surgery fund get plumper, so I can get leaner lol.

I've heard nothing but good things about that doctor as well. Unfortunately I'm not too good in the saving dept. Just wanted to encourage you to do what you can. If possible, see if you can get family to help. I know getting surgery is the best decision I've made in a LONG TIME! God Bless! We will pray for you to get the money.

Welcome, friend...
There are many that have used Dr. alvarez and they all have wonderful things to say about him...I don't think you would go wrong with using him...

I took out a loan through MedChoice for my surgery...If your credit is good, you should not have a problem using them...I think Dr. Alvarez does in house financing...I could be wrong about that, but I think I remember someone saying thaat in a post here on the boards...

The best to you as you began this journey...You will find a way to get it together...It took me over a year to get it all together...But with the help of God Almighty...It came together...It will for you too...!!!

Sending prayers for what you need to happen...!!!

Hi Jeanette,

I wanted to welcome you to the forum.  I was in a similar situation as you.  My insurance didn't cover any weight loss procedures at all.  I didn't go to Dr. Alveraz, but I did go out of the country to Mexico to have the surgery.  I have heard nothing but good things from those members here who have gone to Mexico to have their surgerys.  I can't offer much for your financials, but I set my mind to it and saved the money.  I wish you all the best.

Hi Jeanette I just wanted to welcome you to the forum. As for obtaining the money I would look into getting a loan.  My credit did not qualify me for one other than way high interest rates and hubby and I are fortunate as to be able to work as many hours as we want in our jobs. We have worked 60+ hour weeks since I made my decision in October to have wls.  It hasn't been fun but I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel LOL. One of the reasons I look forward to my surgery is that the day I fly out is my first day off  work since first Monday in October. Anyways just wanted to encourage you and let you know where there's a will there's a way. It may not be easy but I am ohh so sure it will be worth it.

Welcome, Jeanette!

I went to MX (Dr. Aceves) for my VSG as well.  We are a one income family with 4 little kids, so the money thing was a challenge.  My dh has a good job with good pay, fortunately.  So, he volunteered for several months of overtime and was able to save about 1/2 of the cost of the VSG.  The other half we were able to get from our local credit union with a good interest rate & low monthly payment.  It was worth every penny!  I hate that I added debt to my family as we already have enough debt, but I am so thankful with my surgery as is my DH.

Welcome Jeanette!!

I have been a member here for about a month, and I will tell you, it has really changed my life. You will love the support and the friendship you get from OH. It is fabulous!

I am in the same boat you are. My insurance does not cover wls. I am going to borrow from my 401K to get the money. That may be an option for you?

I wish you all the luck and pray that finance opportunities will open up for you!!!

Welcome again!

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement and making me feel so welcome here.  I got to admit though that sometimes I wonder if I will ever get anywhere or if I am just wasting my time.  When I start breaking everything down sometimes I feel over whelmed, kids, money, job.  I am tired all the time and I have to force myself out of my room.  Yeah, my kids help with that lol.  My oldest is in college now but she calls, texts or chats on facebook with me every day, she says she loves me the way I am but she wants me to be happy.  My 17 year old is in her own world for the most part but tells me to go for it, she will support me in my choice, but my 15 year old is against the surgery so I don't really talk about it too him a lot.  There are more people against then for so he only hears the bad things.  When my insurance denied me I figured that was it, don't bother any more.  But now I am taking one day at a time.  If I sell one card a day then I can have the surgery in three years.  Better that, then never right?

My sister had the bypass done 6 years ago and is a size 10 now.  All either of us want is to be a weight that is healthy and if that means I am a size 12 then so be it.  Her insurance paid for most of hers, otherwise I don't think she would have gotten it.  Though she has talked about a revision, but her insurance no longer covers the surgery.  She wants me to get a wls but not going to Mexico for it, sssooo I haven't said told her I have picked a DR. lol.  But we have watched videos together and yes a couple of them were DR. Alvarez's surgeries.  Won't she be surprised when I tell her.  Though, thinking about it now, I was so determined that she watch those specific videos that she may have caught on and is just waiting for me so say something.  She is a good sister that way.  Her and my girls ares really the only one that are giving me the support for the choice I am making.  With my sister being of the same gene pool and having gone through the weight roller coaster she understands the most.

Work is another thing.  I am beginning to think when I finally take the step to schedule the surgery I will just have to take Holidays and vacation.  There are people at my work who have lost their weight (one was close to 50lbs and the other I think 20lbs) with weigh****chers and they think that is all anyone needs.... HHmm  I have followed weigh****chers since they came out with their point system.  Anytime I eat something I think okay this is this number of points......  I even have a web paged saved on my phone that I can use to check how many points are in a serving.   Yeah, my kids hate going grocery shopping with me.

After reading the posts on here I feel more positive about the whole process.  To you girls with such supportive husbands, I am so happy for you.  They deserve a thousand and one hugs.  Of course if my ex paid me the back child support owed I could pay for three surgeries and still get my 17 year old a decent car so she quits borrowing mine :o)   Speaking of which since I do have the car I need to go pick her up from school.

Looking forward to hearing more from everyone.

hi jeanette- i am also new at this forum. i went to MX with Dr. Aceves and i did just fine. i also had to ask for a loan and i am still in debt. Fortunately, i didn't have any complications and i am doing just fine. it has been difficult because of the liquid diet, but i know at the end it'll all be worth it. i've been losing weight and that's my main goal. so maybe you should do some research on Dr. Aceves as well.
Goodluck.
