I'm having an allergic reaction to the surgical glue. It's all red and raised and bumpy and miserably itchy!! I called on Friday and the surgeon's office said to try Caladryl - that's not doing anything and it just itches more! Arrrggghhh!

I'm taking Bendryl. I can't use topical cortizone b/c it makes rashes worse.

I'll go to my doctor tomorrow, but in the meantime, any suggestions?

Thanks.

I had an allergic reaction too. Honestly, I didn't take anything and just let it heal. It does go away and get better.

I had a reaction to the glue on the tape used to cover my stitched.  The area that got inflamed wasn't actually on the stitches, but the skin above and below.  It itched like crazy.  This is going to sound nuts, but I put nozema on it and it cooled the area and stopped my itching.  I didn't put it on the stitches, just the skin that was irritated.  I have no idea why this worked, but it helped me and after a day or so, the itch was gone.  OR, you can try ice. Weird, but my mom used to put ice on all kinds of ouchies - it won't hurt to try it.  Feel better.

I had an allergic reaction too! It caused several red, bumpy, itchy places and the tape caused one huge blister that popped. I still have a scar from that one. I didn't take anything and the itchy redness went away within a few days.

Try putting benedryl cream on the spots where it's the worse. Topically can really target where you need it.

I was just going to ask the board when the itching will stop! My surgery was on Thursday and the glue seems to be okay, it's the actual healing that feels so itchy.

They had put band-aids over my incisions (which were glued) but they had used that paper tape all around my drain area. That's the only place I had a clear reaction where it was red and bumpy.

How long do the incisions take to fully heal? They look really good 4 days out, can I expect another week or so of the itching?

Thanks everyone! I had my husband run out and get some Benadryl cream and it has helped the itching so much!!

I'm going to make an appointment tomorrow with my doctor though b/c it's pretty bad, I have hives all over my stomach - but in the meantime, at least it's not so itchy with the cream!

Thanks so much!
