how much weight can I expect to lose with the gastric sleeve monthly

I'm pretty new at this, too, but see on this board and the "those with 150 or more to lose board for vsg" that the vsg is MUCH better than lapband for rate of loss and ease of loss.

i have had some "issues" post-op with internal swelling making me pretty sick, but in 3 weeks have lost 22 lbs with the sleeve, and 30 overall, since one week prior.

MY sleeve is being a b*tch to get used to, but I must say she's bringing in the results.

whoever told you the VSG adn band lose at the same rate is either

A. a complete idiot, who enjoys talking out of their ass

b. Someone who doesn't do the VSG and trying to save a sale by telling you this. If they say they do the VSG then thorw the name out here and we will see. These are the same programs that say insurance will never approve the VSG

just looked at your surgeon profile He's definatel a "B" only does RNY and Lanband

in a *****y mood so no sugar coating today, sorry all out of sugar

I have no idea who these people are, but they are ill informed.

I am at 143 pounds lost in 10 months.  How does that compare to the Roux n Y?

I can still only eat a smidge more than 1/2 cup at a sitting (which has not changed for  months).  That's a LOT better than the RnY or the Band.

I feel better than I have felt in well over 20 years, I can now put on my old Army uniform from over 40 years ago (which ain't bad considering I was at 360.5 pounds on the day of my surgery).

You just might want to tell those "people' about how I've done.

A former Army Medic (1959-1969), Registered Nurse (1969-2000), College Instructor (1984-1989) and a retired Rehabilitation Counselor.  I am also a dual citizen of the USA and Canada.

High Weight 412 lbs.                    Date of Surgery 360.5                                 Present  170 lbs

I dont know what rate you would lose at as everyone is diferent but I have lost at a great rate with no long term health issues that you have with malabsorbtion.  when I went to see my Gyno after surgery she told me she was so happy that I had the VSg, she ssaid her patients that have the Rny look unhealthy after about a year.  This is a great surgery and in NO way is anything like the band.

Here are some studies with results:

http://www.ssat.com/video/2008/SSAT%2049th%20Annual%20Meeting(3)-Cirangle.htm

The last one is a video presentation and I wrote down the stats:

BMI 35 - 45 : 82.2 % EWL
BMI 45 - 55 : 73.4 %
BMI 55 + : 52.1 %

Compared to an overall EWL of 61.6% for RnY and 70.1 % for DS

EWL is a strange stat though. It's not an independent variable. It is tied to starting BMI. So early VGS patients were SMO and getting the VSG as the first stage in a two-step DS. That skews the EWL and makes it seem low compared to a more homogenous group.

This is another reason why some of the older stats aren't as good.

Also, many VSG surgeons started out making the sleeve as big as they made it for the DS and this lead to regain in the 2-3 year timeframe and less than expected weight loss.

Quite some time ago there was a post where many of us put up how much we lost by a certain cut off (can't remember if it was 2 months, 3 months, etc but I think it was 6 weeks.).  One thing that jumped out at me was that the pounds were vastly different for folks, but many who posted the EWL percent were all about 30%.  So if I am right that it was the 6 week mark you could in theory figure out a very rough estimate of what your loss would look like for that period of time.  Otherwise, you can see on my ticker the monthly loss and my overall EWL percent.   I was at 80% at the 6 month mark, and I am about 7.5 months right now.

I am a new member here, I appreciate that each person have their own experience but I did the surgery with my sister on the same day, she weighed 110 kg and I was 97 kg. it’s been 3 weeks and she lost 20 kg and I only lost 7 kg, my doctor said its fine but I keep wondering why??  I mean I weigh less and I eat much less too, I am still on fluids while she started the smashed food last week! I have another problem which is keeping food in as when I tried smashed food I couldn’t keep it so I stayed on fluids, so, is that normal? I will really appreciate it to hear from some of you who faced similar issues Regards S

Try not to compare sara... this will work for you if you stay on plan.  It is not a race!  If your sleeve is not ready for smashed food no worries, just wait a little longer.  It is not uncommon to read posts like that.
