Swollen feet and ankles

I feel your pain as my feet and ankles seem to stay swollen. I am on lasix also but take as needed. Something to giggle about, one day at work my ankles were swelling over the top of my shoes and it was very painful so I took 2-40mg lasix about 20 minutes before I went home. Well, I lived about 50 minutes from work and no where to stop in between, I  thought for sure I would die, I had to tinkle so bad, I almost pulled the car into the weeds. I did stop at a small town gas station and luckily I know them, I could barely walk and was bent over I had to go so bad, they were laughing their butts off at me. OMG, to top it off, I broke the toilet paper holder! I plan my lasix very carefully now!

I struggle with this one too.  My doc prescribed 40 mg. lasix twice a day.  It helps, but the biggest help is getting all my water in.  My body hangs onto fluid if it feels its not getting enough.  So when I drink all the water, or more, that is prescribed my body gets rid of the excess, including my feet and ankles.  Making sure that I get some exercise in, especially walking, is essential to keeping them down.  A balance between exercise, rest and fluids is the key for me.  I know when they are really bad, 3+ pitting edema, that I've been sitting at the computer too long without moving.  Hope there's something here that may help.

Because I'm a worrier....the question for everyone is why do you have bilateral edema in your legs?  I always worry about a cardiac/kidney involvement.  I would have a very thorough exam by your PCP.  In addition, I wouldn't just take the script for lasix without knowing and understanding why you have the edema and what the game plan is.

Also please note if there is heat or discoloration along with the swelling. Also keep an eye on your toenails. Are they discolored, thick and brittle?  Are they starting to curve.  First signs of circulation disorder. There are many and they use ultra sound to diagnose these now a days..

venous stasis..
