thanks so much for telling us what can happen if you don't address the impulse to over indulge.  I'm like that also, and i have an addicted personally.  so I'm going to have to watch out.  i did hear about addiction transfer  before surgery and I'm hoping to work on it while in counseling.

good to hear that you have getting back on the right track, mydear.

keep up the good work & never give up

Wow thanks for sharing your story..I hear about addiction transfer all the time but not many are brave enough to share it with the entire message board.  Congrats on your sobriety and god bless you girl!!!  Glad you are coming to terms with addiction.  It can happen to any one of us...you are in my thoughts

I want to commend you for having the courage and concern for others to post this.  You have absolutely nothing to gain from putting this story out there other than a desire to help others and I respect and admire that.  The topic of addiction transfer comes up occasionally on this forum but many times it is inside another post and may not get read by that many.  It can be a huge problem and involves not only substances like prescrition or other drugs and alcohol but also behaviors like shopping and sex and you are right on the mark when you advise therapy /counseling (discussion with psychiatrist might also be helpful).  Some people believe they can "dabble" in such things and never become addicted but the traits of an addictive personality may already be present in a person who has a history of overeating, and another addiction can happen swiftly even before the person realizes it.  Again, thank you for posting and congratulations on conquering your challenge!..............Barb

Keep up the good work!!!  Addictions are real tough to kick.  My sleeve is just the short circuit I needed.

When our organist in the church found out about my upcoming surgery she too had seen the show on Oprah.  She told me about the "Addiction Transfer" and started naming them.  I told her that my father was the alcoholic and I had suffered enough with that so that wasn't happening to me, then she named drugs and no way did I have any interest in that, then she named sex and I told her that this one didn't sound at all too bad.  One out of three is a good thing.....I think.  We had a good laugh.

My prayers are with you for your continued sobriety.

Thank you so much for sharing with us.  We here all need to hear things like this to keep us aware of things to avoid.  I am happy that you are overcoming the transfers that you have had.  one year is a great accomplishment.

wow, you are brave.  thanks for sharing, though, I think we all need to hear that. I know I do, anyway.

what were those websites where you can get vicodin?

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.
