CPAC Machine
Ok, I just have to vent, I am sooo upset - I am beside myself.
So I had my sleep test 3 months ago, and didn't hear anything back, and I really don't have any symptoms, but guess what, now they tell me that I have sleep apnea and I have to use one of those god awful stupid machines and that if I don't use it then they will cancel my approval - I am less than one month away from my wls date.
I HATE HATE HATE it, I feel and look like darth vadar. How could I have let myself get so bloody fat that I have to use this thing.
How do you cope with it, I just can't stand it, I told my DH if he even looks sideways at me I will divorce him. We travel for pleasure and I travel frequently for work, I just can't imagine spending the rest of my life hauling this thing around everywhere I go.
I know that there are people out there that have much more significant problems, and that I am being unreasonable but I am really knocked for a loop.
Please please tell me that wls will resolve this.

I was at a 10 pre-op lowered to an 8 after 6 weeks and off completely by 4 months. It will go away in most cases post-op.
Honestly better to live with Cpap than die because you refused to use it. If you have one the cpaps with the card you will need to use it for four to 6 hours a night adn they will and can check. you can always turn it on adn let it sit and run, you can also use it during the night as you sit and watch TV

ceelion****here, i know how you feel, ive had my c-pap machine now for 5-6 months, and i tryed it and it really scared me,ive never used it over night, was suppose to bring it to the hospital but didnt, i told my doctor the truth[ my surgeon] that i dont use it and why, he said i should but it was my choice,i just cant stand the air blowing at my face, so after surgery the nurse asked if i brought it and i told her no and why not, thank goodness they never bothered me about it after asking, now im 6 weeks out and the surgery has helped my sleep apnea already, im sleeping longer[woo-hoo] i had the lowest setting but just couldnt deal with it, just thought id share with you, your not alone....take care....tracy.
Aloha Cee-
I had my study in January....got my results 5 months later in May, only 3 weeks pre op and had to rush to pick the damn thing up because they wouldn't do the surgery unless I had it. I ended up bringing it in, they used my mask only, and it blew so much air down my esophagus that I puked every time they hooked it up in recovery.
I had used it for a few weeks pre op ( setting 13), and was off it completely 3 months post op. Sent it on its merry way back to the company, good riddance.
Hint- just because they say you have to have one doesn't mean you have to use it on trips, etc. Or at all. My pulmonologist who prescribed it says over 70% of the people who use it are able to get off it after WLS.
I guess it's attractive in a strange fetish HBO Real Sex special sort of way. Personally I did NOT love mine. XOLori

Oh Lori thank you, I have just had my first laugh since I was told yesterday afternoon that I had to wear it, I picked it up today and actually cried on my way home.
The guy who fitted me told me and showed me that it actually records how many hours it is used, but I guess that I will wear it at least until the surgery - but I will divorce my dh if he even looks at me funny.
Thanks everyone for all the help and support I am glad that I am not the only one who hates this thing.

Lori, U r too funny! I have my sleep study tonight(12:16am here) and I know that I will get one of those beautiful masks also, I can't wait! I really hope I can fall asleep,my sleeping is so horrible lately. Anyway my real question is , you had VSG in May '08 and u have lost more than 150lbs? That is fantastic! I have been getting a little down, because it seems that some of the most recent patients are not losing like they had anticipated. They post that they r almost depressed with their weight loss. I know with VSG u r not going 2 lose as fast as by -pass, but I have seen people 8 weeks out with 15-20 lbs gone. good luck with the rest of ur journey, and if u have any magical secrets, could u pass them on!! I plan on going in the 1st or 2nd week of March. Leslie
