I am scheduled for surgery on December 23rd - which I have already expressed I am not happy with it being 2 days before Christmas- Someone tried telling me to wait, but I don't want to wait. I have waited to long for this date.

Anyways, seems the surgery is all I can think about right now and everything else is not so much of  a priority, Yes I do my daily life and working and going to school part time, etc.

But right now I am making plans for my kids, home, work etc. And I have post pound all my other extra commiments for the month of December, and January trying to prepare my mind and body for this surgery. Allot of people  have told me I really don't don't need to do that, but to me this is MAJOR surgery and I don't need to be more stressed out then I am already am.

I work full time, part time student, part time business, and working in ministry part time. And raising 3 kids. WOW- yes I am busy.

Is anyone else in the same boat as me or is it just me? Some people think I am over reacting?

Honestly I was not stressed at all pre-surgery.  Now all of my friends family and co-workers...they were stressed.  Not just because of the surgery in general but I added going to Mexico to mine.  Everyone kept asking if I was OK...and I kept saying sure this is going to be cake.  And I felt that way right up until I started rolling down to surgery.  LOL.  That is when I suddenly thought what am I doing here?  lol.  But everything went well.  It was easy and my recovery has been great.  I had surgery on Friday, checked out of the hospital on Sunday and flew home on Tuesday.  I was out visiting friends and driving myself on Wednesday.  I took the whole week off at work but honestly could have returned if I needed too.

You are busy and I am glad you put some other things on the back burner.  Take some time for YOU for a change.  This is surgery but not nearly as MAJOR from a recovery point as RNY.  Take things one step at a time and do what you feel you are ready for.

You will be in my thoughts.  I think 12/23 is a fine date...what a great gift to yourself!
Come join us on the loser's bench...there is always room for more!!!!!!!!

Sometimes it's just in our nature to want to be able to to do it all. I think it's a female thing. I'm glad you are taking the time to take care of 'you'. Nope, you aren't over reacting. I know for me when my heart is set on something, i go for it full steam ahead.

Good luck and congrats on your date. 2009 will bring so much joy and happiness to your already fulfilling life, promise.

WOW!  I don't  think u r overreacting at all.  I, personally, love to see the way u r handling this.  Two days before Christmas is kinda yuck, but i KNOW i wud choose that day as opposed to waiting until a later date.  U may not feel ur best, but in a way this Christmas will be VERY special and one u won't forget.  I think u r right.  This IS a major surgery and major change in ur life.  More power to ya, girl!  I'm totally impressed with ur views and priorties and it sounds like u r doing the best thing to me; TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS!   GOOD JOB!  I SAY GO FOR IT AND CONTINUE WITH THE HARD WORK.  Again, i'm very impressed and excited about ur attitude.  Good luck!

CONGRATS ON YOUR SURGERY DATE!!!  I THINK THAT IS WONDERFUL.  I HAD MY SLEEVE THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING AND EVERYONE THOUGHT I SHOULD WAIT UNTIL AFTER, BUT IT WORKED OUT PERFECTLY FOR ME.
I RESEARCHED THIS SURGERY TWO FULL MONTHS BEFORE MY ACTUAL OPERATION AND I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT HOW MUCH THIS CAN BE ON YOUR MIND.  I WAS ON OH DAILY SOMETIMES FOR HOURS.
I HAVE FOUR GIRLS AND I GOT A LITTLE STRESSED MAKING SURE NOTHING WOULD INTERUPT THEIR LIVES TOO MUCH WHILE I WAS AWAY FOR MY PROCEDURE.  I ACTUALLY TOOK THE OLDEST AND YOUNGEST WITH US WHILE FAMILY HELPED WITH THE OTHER TWO.
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY.  THIS WILL BE THE BEST XMAS GIFT YOU COULD GIVE YOURSELF.

Congrats on getting your surgery date!!! I know you have been trying for a while.

You def need to plan for the fact that the first few weeks, you may not feel up to all of that extra stuff. The first month I only did what I needed to do and focused on getting comfortable with my new eating habits and doing what I needed to do for my family.

You are definately doing the right thing my surgery was two weeks before thanksgiving and I too re-acted if you can call it that I call it being prepared and smart.

I made sure the Christmas tree and decorations were up (Not sure when I would feel like doing it after the surgery)
Shampooed the carpets got everything in order knowing that the first week of Dec. my husband was going in for some cancer treatments that he has been battling for five years, my 17 year old was having his wisdom teeth pulled on Dec. 4th and my 23 year old firefighter son is having knee reconstructive surgery on Dec. 5th.

So No you are not over reacting you are doing the smartest thing for you doing what is going to make you the most  comfortable and stress free before and after surgery. So  ROCK ON

You are going to do great-Best wishes

You've been waiting almost all of your adult lifetime for this surgery. Why put it off? Christmas is important, but it sounds like you have yourself scheduled well. You are busy and that's good, right before the surgery. No time to be nervous about it.

I don't see the problem with having it when you are. I understand having to wait. I had to wait almost a year before having mine to accomodate my boss and that was ok with me, she was very helpful and understanding. I just was so depressed about the weight, many, many times I'd say "I would go afternoon and have this surgery done if it were up to me and not wait another day". So, I understand the waiting game.

I say don't worry, try to put your mind at ease and let your family help take care of christmas. It'll not only be good for them as a leaning experience, it will be good for them to help YOU for a change. Best of luck with your surgery
