My 10 Month Report (From BMI 55 to 29)
Hi all
I often see people wanting to know if this procedure works for people with a BMI over 50. The answer in my case is definitely yes. I am posting this monthly report because I remember how much I needed to hear about success when I was at the start of this journey.
I used to wake up almost every morning with some sort of resolution to give up smoking and lose weight. The fantasy would only last a little while and then reality would kick in and I would wish for a miracle. Well I found the miracle in this VSG.
Tomorrow will be 10 months since I had my VSG - I have lost 160lbs (73kg). Over the next 2 months I want to lose another 11lbs (5kg) and then I will have lost exactly half of me in 12 months.
I think I have been successful because I have worked hard at exercise. I have gone from someone who would do anything to avoid walking a few hundred metres to someone who looks for opportunities to walk and bike ride whenever I can. I also attend gym classes and try to do at least 30 minutes of some sort of exercise each day.
When it comes to food I have not been nearly as good. I break all the rules - I drink when I eat, drink alcohol and soft drinks, eat too much and don't count calories. My main rule is I try to eat very little in bad carbs - I avoid bread, pasta and rice. Lately I have been eating sweets and drinking too much alcohol so am trying to stop that to lose some more kilos over the next couple of months.
Often as a newbie you wonder where the people who have had there surgery a while ago have gone - Whether they are too ashamed to say that they failed. For me I'm pretty sure now that they are mainly living their lives in new (or in my case very baggy) skins.
In a few months I am going to think about plastic surgery to get rid of all that excess. I'm told I will lose about 5kg with surgery and if I add that to the 5kg I still want to lose that will bring me to about a BMI of 26 and a weight that my surgeon says would be ideal for me given my bone structure etc. Remember the BMI thing is only rough and depends on genes and race etc.
Any way - I wish everyone here the very best for their journey AND thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the understanding, advice and inspiration.
Lois
