Will I ever eat Thai food again?
I'm 10 weeks and 1 1/2 days away from surgery and already treating every meal as if it's my last. Tonight we had one of my favorite meals -- Tom Yum Goong soup, beef panang, pad thai and rice all washed down with a nice big glass of diet coke. I took every bite as if it was my last. I have such great memories of going out to Thai dinner with my husband. It's almost always our date night dinner of choice. It's also my 9 year olds favorite family date night place. He loves to go to Thai dinner, Barnes and Noble for books and then finish up the night at Baskin Robbins -- you'd think we took the kid to Disneyland! LOL Will I ever enjoy these family times again?
Yes, absolutely you will! You'll take a couple of bites from each of those yummy, wonderful dishes and then bring the rest home to enjoy for lunch and dinner the next day. You're lucky your son loves Thai--our daughter won't eat "spicy."
The great thing about the sleeve is that you can enjoy your food just like always, only smaller portions. And you won't miss the large portions because you'll feel totally full!

Yes, I had Pad Thai at about 2 months Post-op and it was great.... I ate it 2 times and then my son finished it off. I got the scallops. I had trouble with chicken til about 3 months out. I don't like hot and spicy, but seems most people who liked that before VSG can eat it after they have healed. I ate the meat and just alittle of the noodles.
Like the others said-- yes, you will enjoy these family times again (and again and again).
Um, you might decide you don't want the diet coke though, esp. since we can't/shouldn't eat and drink at the same time. Ya' gotta wait about an hour before drinking. And you might want to do something other than Baskin Robbins, but you don't have to. Just some minor changes and adjustments. As for your Thai food, you'll want to choose something high in protein and low in carbs. Even further out, I typically don't eat noodle-type stuff only because they fill me up too much and I end up not having enough room for my protein. With a tiny tummy ya' gotta make every bite count sometimes. I often wait and eat the starchy stuff after I eat the healthier stuff. Sometimes I have more room for it than others.
Deep, cleansing breath-- everything will be just fine! You'll make a few adjustments, mesh new and old ways of enjoying family times, and do all the "normal" stuff in old and new ways. It's all good!
Peace,
Rana
Jesus doesn't want me for a zombie, and He's given me free will so I can choose. I've escaped this world's snare but I don't have to be square. Oh yes, I have become a Christian but I still know how to groove!

I loveeeeeeeeee thai food and i can eat it just fine!!!! Rice is the exception for me......i can eat everything else.....if i have rice it has to be super wet....but rice isnt a great choice because it expands even if its already cooked. Every time we go to the bay area we have to go to this thai joint in San Mateo that has the most exellenttttttttttt thai food. I wouldnt ever go there and miss my chance to eat such a delight LOL tiny tummy or not!!! Can U say LEFTOVERS!!!!!!
Its in the little downtown area on 4th st .... http://www.thaisatayrestaurant.com/ its a little place but the food is awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeee it has won awards. We are obsessed with it. The sweet basil beef is to dieeeeeeeeee for!!!!! We love everything we get there!!!! Next time i am down there u will have to come eat with us!!!!
I would think that Thai food is exactly the kind of food you will want to eat. It is relatively light and loaded with flavor. You do not have to eat much to get the full impact.
I am not going to lie and say you will not mourn quantity though. But in time your eyes will match up with your tummy and just looking at a big plate of food wlll hurt the new little tummy. Last night I cooked pork cutlets and some italian veggies. My husbands plate was piled high and I could not imagine eating that much, nor did I feel the desire to. I had a little plate with about 3oz of meat and 1/2 cup of veggies and I could not eat another bite. It was delicicious though. I felt fulll but not stuffed and later I felt ligt not bloated.
It is an adjustment but the rewards far outweigh the sacrifices, good luck.
