I am having terrible constipation. I have decided to try eating an Activia yogurt each morning. I am also taking store brand laxatives once every week to get things moving. Is the Activia okay nutrition wise? I am not sure how many grams of sugar is too much, how many carbs are too many? So here are the nutrition facts on it: Total Fat: 2 g Calories:110 Sodium: 70mg Sugars: 17g Protein: 5g Tot. Carbohydrate:19g **Also if someone could tell me approximately how many sugars, calories, and carbs per day we should have I would appreciate it...I didn't get any of that in my paperwork...just protein and water intake** THANK YOU! K~

I tried the Dannon Activia Light yogurt - few less calories/carbs/sugars.  We'll see if it's worth it in a couple weeks. :) My paperwork suggests the following for daily intake: From 3 weeks - 3 months post-op: Calories: 600-800 Fat: 30g Carbs: <40g Proteins: 70g HTH

I eat the Activia Lite with 70 calories and 13g of carbs.  It's still more carbs than I'd like in one meal, but it was a natural food solution that helped fix my problem.  If I'm feeling clogged up, I add some flaxseed granola or mini-wheat cereal to my yogurt for some fiber.  It adds calories that day, but it helps. I don't really follow a strict guideline on how many carbs I eat in a day.  My doctor didn't specify anything but 60-80g of protein and 64+oz of fluids.  Avoid fats and empty carbs. I do try to eat low carb in general similar to an Adkins (w/o the red meat), and limit my carbs to things that are good for me (like my Activia, my chewable vitamins, beans, etc...) Almost without exeption, I stay under 1000 calories each day.  I flucutuate between 600 - 850 on average.  My focus is protein, fluids, vitamins.  Low fat and low carbs are something I look at, but not something I worry about, as long as I'm choosing healthy foods.  It was a long time after surgery that I started to eat fresh fruit like apples and pears,

Hi K...every doc. is different in terms of eating. Mine recommends daily: 600-800 cals <30g fat <40g carbs >80g protien As for the constipation, that would be one of my issues post-op. The yogurts did nothing to help me. I started taking Miralax (cheapest place is costco, at least for me). it works very well to get things moving. Angel suggested it a long time ago and it worked. Now the surgeon would like me to up my fiber so I am taking 2 fibercon tablets a day. i am not taking miralax right now only the fibercon to see if that keeps things regular. So far so good. Hang in there..........sounds like you are doing well!! jeni

I like Benefiber even though I am pre-op.  I am trying to eat high protein low carbs and fats to lose weight before surgery.  It dissolves completly in liquid and I just add it to my crystal light.
