One of my assumptions was feeling more energetic post op, carrying around less weight, easier to walk, bend, etc... Most the posts I see, including those about going back to work, talk about napping and being tired.
When did you notice your energy level picking up? I'm curious if it's tied more to weight loss (ex 10%) or time (i.e. 2 weeks or 2 months post op)
Thanks
My first meeting with nurse, bariatric DR, and psychiatrist is later this week - I think my biggest worry so far the pre-op diet :)
The search feature is on the blue bar at the top of the page - on the right you'll see a magnifying glass next to My OH. click on the magnifying glass and enter your search. You can also enter the doctors name and see if he's registered here - if so, you'll see his history and reviews. Look below the blue bar on the right hand side and you'll see "Find a ........... "
Good luck - and read, read, and then read some more.
I had the VSG (wrong forum) but all the same with any surgery...
You are in both a new mental state and physical. I was hungry and for the most part still am lol but I am 70 lbs less and can 'control' it better then I thought. Liquids after surgery may fill you up sooner but your brain is still telling you it wants more. Just keep drinking tha****er and if you can handle some unflavored protein get as much in as you can. Your body is going through a lot right now. Good luck.. it doesn't always get easier dealing with 'hunger' but you learn what types of hunger your feeling.
I had VBG in Aug 2003 and have been having GERD issues for the last 3--4 years. I recently had an endoscopy done and the doc said he could barely fit the camera through the band and really had to "force" it through. He said that it shouldn't be that small. Since food wasn't passing through the band, when I would lay down, food and stomach acids would come back up. He is suggesting that I have a surgeon look into it and possibly have the band removed. Has anyone had this happen? The last thing I want to do is have my surgery reversed unless it's replaced by the sleeve. Thank you!
I had the sleeve done on Sept 2, 2013 I am still suffering left shoulder pain especially when trying to eat foods. Anyone else having this issue or any suggestions on what I can do?
Hi Kyle,
Hope you are feeling better now than when you first posted this on Thurs morning.
A couple thoughts:
1) Did you realize you posted on the VBG forum, not VSG? Not trying to be snarky, but there is much more activity on the VSG forum so you can get appropriate help and advice faster. (VBG is a different, older surgery which is rarely done these days.)
2) Do you have any post-op instructions re taking over the counter meds? Is your local doctor familiar with VSG and aware you were getting surgery? It would be great if you had a local medical resource.
I certainly am not qualified to give medical advice, but when I had surgery almost 2 years ago right here in Philly, I was told to contact the surgeon's office before taking any over the counter meds in the first few weeks. I had a cough and a very sore throat. In my case I was told to look for liquid medications and avoid NSAIDS or decongestants. (Decongestants were an issue because like many obese people I had very high blood pressure. One of the best things about losing weight has been having my blood pressure normalize.) Liquid Tylenol and sugar-free cough drops were helpful.
all the best, Katy
