Topic: VSG Surgery In Mexico

Hi All,

I am new to this forum, but I have really appreciated the information that everyone has shared here. I am looking into getting VSG surgery in Mexico and I am wondering for those of you who have done this who you would recommend. I have found some good reviews for Dr. Fernando Garcia,m Dr. Alverez, and Dr. Aceves. There is a significant difference in price between the doctors and I am wondering if it is based on location, demand, as they all seem to have considerable credentials and experience performing the surgery. Just looking for feedback,

Thanks

Topic: Cost

There are many fees involved with gastroplasty, including consultation fees, surgeon and facility fees, and any medications or other needs the patient will have. Do you know the total cost of Vertical Banded Gastroplasty?

Topic: RE: Awareness and Accountability

I question and then track everything I put in my mouth. Myfitnesspal is my constant companion. If I eat more calories than I want then I go work it off.  Today, I hit 1,000 for the first time since my surgery. I went to the gym and put in an hour on the elliptical and burned back 650 of them.

I am am still new to this, though nearing my goal. I am completely honest with myself and hold myself entirely accountable for my results. Even if I indulge, it is never on food that i shouldn't have.

I have gone from A1C of 11.5, cholesterol over 500, and triglycerides over 5,000 to an A1C of 6.1, cholesterol of 105, and triglycerides of 99 and that is off all of my medication. I am healthier than I have been since I was a teenager.

Looking forward to maintenance and years of healthy living. I will not return to that lifestyle. It was killing me and it could have happened at any time with those numbers.

Topic: RE: VBG band is now smaller?

i had my surgery 20 years ago, and I've recently had the sensation that my stomach is actually smaller now than it was in the first few years after the surgery.  When I had my hysterectomy last year, the surgeon looked at my stomach, and said that there was a lot of tissue grown around the staples.  He cleaned up what he could, but said that there wasn't really a whole lot that could be done about removing the staples or revising it, unless it was an extreme emergency situation.  Same goes for the band.  It's just been too long.

But it does cause me a great deal of trouble finding enough healthy food to eat.  I tend to eat small amounts of nutritionally dense (meaning not very good for me) food just to get enough in me.

It's been a long time since my surgery, but I remember around the 40-50 pound weightloss feeling much more energy and not wanting to rest and take a nap. The more I did, the more I wanted to do.

I have the VBG, and have GERD, but my bariatric surgeon said that isn't the problem. It's eating too late at night before laying down, and not chewing enough to break the food up. I also take OTC Omeprizole and that does the trick.  I'd suggest seeing your bariatric surgeon. If you band is indeed too tight, it can be stretched open a bit farther. Once I stopped eating 2 hours before bed and taking the Omeprizole in the afternoon, I seldom have problems.
