This is an excellent read and I think you should put it on the VSG board for all to read...

First off, congrats on your decision for surgery and to make a change in your life. The post-op diet is not as bad as everyone says it is. Any drinks that are carboninated will be completely cut out of your diet for life. As far as artifical sweetners go, you won't use them either most likely. Each doctor is different in his post-op diet for their patients so when you finally find one, he'll give you more information for sure.

Not sure if this helps but anyway...Good luck and keep us posted on your progress...

Hi Kym...you need to go to the VSG board. There is alot of information for self pay patients. I too was a self pay patient and went to Mexico to have my surgery. I went thru Belite Weight Loss out of CA and they helped me tremendously! I had my surgery at Star Medica in Juarez, Mexico by Dr. Rodriguez and the care was exceptional. Here is the website if you want to talk to someone about it : www.beliteweight.com

My total surgery was $6800.00 as a self pay patient and it included the 4-day hospital stay, surgery, anesthesia..everything except travel. Let me know if you need anything further or simply go to the VSG board...

Good Luck!

Oh wow, hope things have started to go better by now. Weird about their new useless appointments and possible scams. That is a lot of money $1,500)! I hope my doctor doesn't try that. Will let you know. I am scheduled for some office visits (pre-op stuff now) later in July. So everything is a go ahead, I think.

What did you do about your job? Sorry it was so awful. I have been there, done that too....staying at a job I hated because of the benefits.

Do you know when your surgery might be yet? I am thinking mine will be in September, but that is just a guess.

Oh, I wrote to a friend of mine who just had the sleeve in January. She loves it and said she has lost 60 pounds so far. Feels great and feels full instead of the food feeling stuck. She said she does have a bit of a problem with acid reflux, but that was all.

Take care and please keep me posted.  :))

I just had the imbrication-Lapland-hernia-scar tissue surgery.  I had no illusions of how sore I would be.  I knew that I would feel nausia and have kept it controled with the medications.  I knew I would have trouble swallowing.  14 years earlier I had my spleen out so this is very much what I remember.  Today is friday and I had surgery tuesday, same day surgery.  My insides finally woke up today and everything moved and that helps more than anything.  Very sore but feeling more normal.  Making sure I am getting fluids in, walking around the house every two hours and taking deep breaths and coughing to clear my throat.  I know not to pu**** too fast so I think I am doing ok.  I noticed that I have not had any more acid reflux wow!  I would have done the surgery just for that.  I have work off for another 10 days going to take it slow and easy.  I have most of the air bubbles out now but not all.

Thanks for the posts letting me know that it just takes time.  Started at 265 day of surgery 242.

Topic: I have questions
With the support of my husband, I have decided to undergo WLS.  Together, he and I have pretty much decided that the sleeve would be the best option for me.  I am now in the process of waiting on my insurance to give me the go-ahead, and should have more of that next week.  My cardiologist, neurologist, neurosurgeon, and PCP all believe that this would greatly benefit me health wise.  I just want to feel better.  I am 36 and on full disability due to 3 brain operations and 4 strokes, have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high chlosterol and other things.

My question is this.  I was reading about the post op diet.  All of the diet plans I read have said that you must drink diet drinks and use artificial sweeteners.  The neurological condition I have, I cannot have any form of artificial sweeteners.  It sends me into very bad headaches for days and makes me very sick.  Will this automatically make it so I can't have the surgery?

Please give me your thoughts.

Thank you,

Patty

I just got out of my billion pre-surgery exams. I noticed they're requiring a LOT more than they did 2 years ago, and all done in office, so I suspect a lot of it is a scam.

We're having a showdown over the $1500 add-on of useless appts & supplements which I don't need. It's not covered by insurance, and I'm not even insurance-approved for surgery yet, but they want me to pay all this money out of pocket. I said no for the 2nd time. They say they won't operate without it. I still said no. The head surgeon is supposed to call and "consult" with me.

I love my surgeon but f they're willing to walk away from their $15,000 insurance fee for the surgery over this, so am I!

I have an appt with another surgery center on Aug 1 - want to see how I feel about their staff, care, and BS requirements.

Also, I've been staying at my sucky job just for the insurance coverage. But now it's gotten so bad that I think leaving is more important that the insurance, which will really screw things up. But it's more important to stay sane than to get thin!

When will you know more about your status?

Same here!  I wanted the sleeve but they wheren't doing it.
Got the band in Feb and they did the first Sleeve in April.
Than I started having trouble at 1 year, unfilled
Unfilled again at 2 years.  PCP said to get it out.

I have been in limbo for 1.5 years and just found out my
insurance is now covering the Sleeve.
I will be trying for a rivision.  Good luck.  We need it.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Did you decide to keep or get rid of the band?

What was the reason for getting rid of the band? I forget I have it after 4 years.
"I have been sleeved" (3/25/08) ....MzsReeCee 274/250/192 - Don't let the number fool you -- I have moved into weight lifting and the fat has been replaced by muscle in so many places. We still have 42 lbs to go!
