Topic: RE: :-(Scared and Tired of the Negative Comments
Hey A Pike, I am only 1 year out -- there are a couple of people on the board that are 3 years out -- maybe they will see this post and respond. At 1 year out I have not noticed a bid difference in the size of my pouch. I can eat a whole fried hard egg with a slice of cheese on it. I have not lost enough weight yet that I am fearful of getting to thin. I am still at the stage of being afraid I will not be able to lose enough weight. I still want to lose another 50 pounds. Then I am going to check into plastic surgery. It is my personal opinion that the people that like to rain on other people's parade are the type of people that do not like to see someone else succeed in anything or make a choice contrary to their own. My reaction to these types of people is to not buy into their negative chatter/state of mind. I choose to not rise to their bait or to place myself in a position that requires me to defend my choices. I feel confident that I chose the right surgery for me. Selecting a surgery type is a personal decision. Based on your fabulous results you have obviously selected the right surgery for you!!! Congratulations to you. Sharon -117#

Topic: RE: HOW IS EVERYONE?
Hello Gloria!! I have been on a "weight loss stall" I won't call it a plateau because I have not been exercising. So I know that it is because of ME that I am not losing weight. How is the Atkins working out?? I hope you show some weight loss for your efforts!! I weigh in tomorrow -- If I have gained any more weight I will am going to go running and screaming into the night!! I don't check the board very often on the weekends. I get real bogged down with my Ebay sales/listings/shopping on the weekends. Have a great week! And happy Halloween to you as well. Sharon -117

Topic: RE: question about vomitting
Hi Taryn, I have suffered greatly from vomiting. Seemed in the beginning that was all I did. If I eat to much I vomit. The only other time I seem to vomit is after eating something fairly dense/heavy (i.e. slow to pass through the pouch) I think that "spit" backs up in the pouch making it even more full -- and since it is not passing through fast enough it comes back up. I also experience the vomiting when I eat rice/pasta. I think that it swells in my pouch making it overly full. I am cautious to eat much less than I think when I eat rice/pasta. That's my only insight. Glad to hear that you 2 are doing well otherwise! Best Regards Sharon

You should try and get 50g minimum. And, I would question the reason your surgeon does not allow protein shakes. I suspect it is because he does not want you to drink your calories, but even if you had "half" of one, that was say 20g, it would help tremendously in getting to that 50g, and only be about 100 calories. I definitely recommend protein shakes, and lots of vitamins....it will boost your energy. Otherwise you may feel tired and not want to exercise. ~Kim Open VBG 9/1/04 -39

Hi Taryn! I don't have the problem you have with vomiting, but I did experience the same thing with my incision. I developed a wound infection while I was still in the hospital and that darn thing drained for 7 weeks. I too, had to tape pads to myself and the tape just ate my skin until I would bleed. I tried everything! The surgeon kept putting in packing and kept it open so it would keep draining. After putting in the second wick, it finally stopped draining and healed quite nice. Just hang in there; it will quit. Just make sure the doctor is aware of what's going on and make sure to report if any redness or fever start up. Good luck! Lenore

I just read Casey's post, and I couldn't agree more! You are doing a phenominal job, and quite honestly, I find your success inspiring! Keep up the good work, and try to keep the negative junk at bay. Julie

Hi Taryn, I'm sorry, but I haven't experienced any of what you mentioned. I would have preferred to offer some pearls of wisdom, but alas I have none. I just didn't want you to think that no one was out here, and I see that you haven't had any replies. Sounds like questions that you may want to run past your surgeon though - just to make sure that you is aprized of your condition. There may be something that he can do to help, and if not, at least you know that he is aware and that there is no need to worry. Sorry I wasn't able to help. Julie

Hi Gloria, I think you're right, a lot of lurking, but not much posting. Good to hear that things are going well for you. I am only 12 days out, so I am still very much at the beginning of this. I look forward to the days when I can have the foods that you mention! Right now I'm still on the pureed stuff, which is ok. I've been living on cream of wheat, pureed creamed soups, cottage cheese, pureed chicken, pureed ham, 1 oz. of pureed liver pate', (tasty, but not something I plan to make a staple in my diet), yogurt, lite applesauce, etc. I went back to work for half day on my 10th day out, not because I had to, but because I felt good enough to. I will admit that I was surprised that I slept most of the morning on Saturday and Sunday. So I guess even though I feel up to it, perhaps I couldn't foresee the fatigue factor. I'm surely not up to any 16 hour days!!!! Hope you have a great week, Julie

Topic: RE: post-op 7 days and regretting it!!
Oh Mary, I am so sorry to hear that you are struggling with these feelings. I can only comment on my own experience. I had my surgery the same day that you did, and I haven't had these problems. I wonder if perhaps due to different procedures? Mine was done laproscopic, so I only have 5 small incisions, and they haven't even been anything that I've noticed. If I were you, I would most certainly contact your surgeon and let him know of your difficulties. You may be dealing with depression, which I'm hearing is rather common among some after anesthesia. Wouldn't it be great if there were something that he could prescribe to help you cope with this? I am no professional, but I think that may be a start. Good luck to you, I will keep you close in my prayers. Julie

I wish I had the criteria that you requested. I'm only 12 days out, but I can at least comment on people! They simply don't understand all that you have to endure to get where you are today. I know that it is easy to just say that you have to ignore it, but you already know that you have to do just that. For whatever reasons, there have always been (well-intended?) people who have sabotaged our efforts --I'm sure if you think about it, you know who they were/are for you. Unfortunately, there are those among us who just can't "get it" unless they have experienced things for themsleves. Compassion and empathy doesn't seem to come easily for all of us. So yes, I think I can say that all of us "have wanted to slap the heck" out of these people. You certainly aren't alone there! If it is any comfort to you at all, your story is inspiring! I hope to be among you in the years to come with the same fears once I am at goal weight! Right now it is almost too hard to imagine weighing what I should. But I CAN'T WAIT to get there! It's helpful to hear both the good and the bad about getting there, and I thank you for sharing! Best of everything, Julie
