Topic: RE: How much can you eat?
Let me start by saying I do not eat meals for a stretched out period of time. I eat my meals in about 5 minutes. If I go out to eat with someone then I stretch this out.
My father recently bought Banquet chicken nugget tv dinners for my son. Each dinner has six chicken nuggets, about 10 french fries and two tablespoons of corn. Well... now my kid has decided he doesn't like them anymore. So I recently ate one -- I was able to split one into three meals. Probably not the best food choice I could make... but then beggars can't be choosy.

Topic: RE: Does eating get any better?
Mary,
I had this happen also. But, I must say, chicken at 2 weeks out?? Seems a bit much. I was on liquids for 4 weeks, then puree for 2, then solids after that. But, even so, in my opinion, you should avoid "hard" things like chips, nuts, raw vegetables, things hard to chew for the first 8 weeks at least.
I got the pains when I first went to solids, and I think the scar tissue around the band is still healing. It has gone away over time, but every once in awhile, I got a small pang with something I eat. I would take it sloooooow, chew everything very well, until it's practically liquid in your mouth, and avoid the "crunchy" or "hard" foods I mentioned above for awhile. And, even now, if I cannot chew enough to get a mashed potato consistency, I spit it out. Like steak is always hard... I'm very careful, but I haven't thrown up at all.
And, please confirm with your doctor that you can eat some solids already. It seems entirely too soon to me since you are still healing! Plus, my weight loss slowed dramatically once I went to solid foods. If you can stay on liquid/pureed for awhile, do it!

Topic: Does eating get any better?
I am 2 weeks post-op and just started eating shaved chicken. I ate some earlier and it hurt really bad. What I am wondering is does it always feel this way or does it get any better? There are other things also that I have ate that causes pain also. I am just hoping that with time it does get better.
Thanks
Mary
Topic: RE: How much can you eat?
I eat until I feel full also. It depends on what I eat how much I can get down. I am a firm believer at this point that what really matters most is drinking a decent amount of water and exercise (I walk). I have lost 48 pounds so far, and unfortunately did not take measurements before my surgery, but I think I lose inches when I'm not losing pounds.
I had a sweet and sour chicken lean cuisine and I gave two pieces of chicken away, ate most of the rest of it, and actually pushed it a little too far and didn't feel great. I can't really eat much bread period, but I can eat some rice. I have also been able to eat a little bit of pasta. If you're losing and you feel like you're following the nutritionist orders then I wouldn't worry about it. I was never told how many calories to have so I'm curious what everyone else has been told. I don't have problems with vomiting (except a few times when I ate too fast or tried to eat bread) and so far all foods have sat well except for steak. I don't think I chewed it well enough and felt miserable and several times.
Topic: RE: :-(Scared and Tired of the Negative Comments
Hi,
I was 3 years out in July. Yes, I have gained back some. I got within 25 lbs of goal. Then I started cheating a little here and there with sugar. Candy is my down fall. I need to lose 50 lbs to be at goal, but at least I`m not back to square one. I had a nightmare while I was in the hospital, that I could`nt quit eating chocolates. At that time I was not a sweet eater, that was not how I gained my weight so I did`nt really pay that much attention. Now I wish I had heeded that warning. I can eat a little more of regular healthy food. We went to Outback recently and I was able to eat most of a 7 oz filet. It was very tender. I also was able to eat the salad. Meat has to be very tender or I don`t do well with it.If I stick to a normal healthy diet, I cannot overeat. It seems like I remember my surgeon telling us years 3-5 are the ones to watch for. I am noticing that I can eat somewhat normal. Thank goodness, not near the volume I used to, such as two huge helpings of spaghetti, several slices of pizza, etc. You know, I don`t even crave those foods anymore. If I just had`nt started with that darn candy. I know exactly how you feel about the people who say we will regain. One older lady I know used to tell me about a lady in her small town *****gained every bit of her weight back after wls. I thought I would scream! I am determined that is not going to happen to me. I hope I did`nt discouraged anyone. I`m still happy I had the surgery. Before surgery, I had to take blood pressure medication, my lower back hurt constantly, I wanted to sleep all the time. Sometimes its good to remind ourselves just how far we have come. God bless.

Hi Gloria! It's me, your surgery buddy.
You're doing MUCH better than I am. I've lost around 50 and I've stalled. I will be the first to point out that I still have the brain I had going into this journey, so I still have a hard time saying "no" to bad foods. I still occasionally throw up - especially when I've eaten something dense (steak is my downfall). I've vowed to shed another 20 by Christmas, so I'm back on the wagon with my diet and exercise program (getting started with the exercising is the hard part!). I chase a 21 month old around all day, so that does give me quite a bit of excercise!!
Hang in there and know that you're doing good. The weight didn't get there overnight and it won't disappear overnight. It's going to take time for all of us, so be patient and you'll come out just fine in the end!
Good luck and keep in touch!

Topic: RE: How much protien are we supposed to eat everyday?
My surgeon told me at least 60 to 65 grams a day. I noticed when I started my hair stopped shedding. With that much protein you just have to about use shakes.
Topic: How much can you eat?
I was curious to know how much food you can eat at one meal or snack? Sometimes I think I am eating too much, but I have only gotten sick twice and I don't continue to eat once I feel satisfied or full. I chew my food to almost nothing before swallowing and I do get full, but I can eat almost a whole Lean Cuisine meal and that seems like its too much. I am not really worried about calories because i only get between 800-1200 a day which is what my surgeon's nutritionist recommends and I go for protein first. I am following the rules that were given to me and things are going well so I am not terribly concerned about this. It is just my curiosity especially since so many people seem to have trouble with vomitting and eating enough.
Hugs,
Sara

Running and Screaming is GOOD! Do lots of that! LOL. Maybe the daytime is safer though.

Hi Gloria!
You are doing great on your weight loss! I'm proud of you! I've been binging on sugar again...have to stop doing that! I know I don't feel good when I eat a whole box of cookies, so why do I do it and how can I stop??? When I find out the answer to that question I'm going to sell it and be a millionare! I haven't exercised in almost a month. My knee is Still swollen and painful, but at least the bruising is gone. I hope I can get back to the gym soon, but I'm worried about causing permanent damage if I do any excercise. You are working 16 hour days? That's a lot of work! Hopefully your paycheck is bigger too. I never have overtime.
