Topic: VGB vs DS
Hi everyone!
I've just recently decided to look into some WLS options and hopefully find a procedure right for me so I can start a new life! I've researched and researched all the options and still have questions. I was just curious to know why some of you chose to have the VGB than the DS. These 2 surgeries are the ones I'm looking into the most and haven't really come to any decisions yet. And I really rather steer clear of the RNY because I don't like the side effects. It would be greatly appreciated if some of you could give some pros and cons of the VGB and tell me anything that I should known concerning this surgery. Thanks in advance!

HEY SARA, CONGRADULATIONS. I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE. THAT IS TRULY A BLESSING. I AM HAPPY FOR YOU AND I PRAY THAT ALL THE BLESSINGS OF GOD OVERTAKE YOU.
Topic: RE: Is almost everyone having the RNY surgery instead???
hello yes in time with either surgery you can eat more and more... RNY is a tool with a window, the window to lose weight is within the first 12 to 18 months following wls... after that your stomach (pouch has stretched and you can eat more.. its at this point ppl tend to gain weight back... you have to take those 12-18 months post op and try to lose the most weight you can... following a strict diet and directions from your doctor... you should be able to get down to a normal weight and if you follow your good eating habits you should be able to maintain your new weight..
I already had the RNY revision, and have been home from the hospital a few days now.. feeling good but sore, i gained 9 pounds after surgery with water gain, ivs, ect... i weight myself today and have lost 6 pounds... What happened with my VGB is...and i didnt know until the doctor did my RNY, My staple line in my pouch broke down and opened up so my pouch was running over into my regular stomach which let me eat more.. i believe now if it had not have failed i would have been able to get under 200 pounds and get to my goal weight of 120... hopefully now it will happen, and I know its not magic you do have to watch what you eat, exercise, etc..

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that RNY is the solution you're looking for. I am 18 months out from RNY and I can eat as much if not more than you describe. They ran some test on me and said "everything's normal" and my pouch is "intact". I don't get sick from sweets.
There is no surgery that is going to be able to control your intake in the long run. We can all find ways to sabotage the benefits of our surgery if we choose. I'm not trying to suggest that you did anything to sabotage your surgery however I would hate for you to rearrange your body once again only to find yourself back in the same place you were a year later.
Topic: RE: Help! Can't stand the protien/liquids!!
Have you tried atkins shakes? Maybe I am weird but I like them. My favorite flavor is Cafe au let. I also drink the strawberry and vanilla flavors as well. I was told early out that is more important to make sure you stay hydrated so if nothing else please make sure you drink plenty of fluids. Sorry your having such a hard go it but it is early and we all have those feelings of what did I do to myself?? As far being on a liquid diet for six weeks...WOW. I don't think I could have done that myself and to be honest at three weeks out I was eating soft foods. Ask your doctor about eating tunafish without the bread of course or eggs in about a week or maybe try blending soup.

Congratulations!!! I can't imagine being out of work five months...I'll bet you are bouncing off the walls. I work for the government and have a lot of security, but I know a lot of employers are downsizing and I would be so scared if I was out in private industry. I'm glad things are looking up for you...that's just great!!
Topic: OT: I got the job!
Hi Everyone,
I just got a call from the recruiter and I got the job! I have been out of work for the past 5 months and I have been interviewing and I got the job that I really wanted. I am so happy. It seems like everything in my life is falling into place
I just had to share this with all of you because when I lost my job everyone here was so supportive. Thank you all for letting me share my good news with you. I am off to get ready because tonight I am going out to celebrate! Woohoo!
Hugs,
Sara

Topic: RE: Puke Lady Here
Hi Heather,
I would suggest trying some liquids again like soup. Maybe that would be easier on your tummy. I do think you should go to your doctor to discuss this further. There may be a medical reason for your puking.
I have had some episodes of vomitting, but its usually from overeating or eating something too heavy. I am only 4 1/2 months out and I am still learning what works and what doesn't. It really is a process of trial and error.
I hope you find the answers you are looking for and that you get through this rough patch soon
Hugs,
Sara

Topic: RE: gastro-intestinal virus
Hi Kathy,
I am so glad you are feeling better. I have not had any incidence of stomach flu since surgeyr, but there are some nasty bugs out there this year. My father had to go to the hospital because he had a bad stomach flu that caused him to pass out and he hasn't had any WLS. I was lucky that I didn't get it. You may have been somewhat more suseptable to getting a virus because u just had surgery recently, but I don't think its something that will haunt u. I would say to check with your doctor just to be sure.
Hugs,
Sara

I spent two weeks in January sick as a dog- turns out I had contracted some kind of gastro- virus that was keeping me sick.
Have you talked to your doctor?
When I went to mine (gp not my surgeon) he suggested I try taking Gravol for the nausea.
I could only stomache half-tablets- but at least I was able to keep a small anount of stuff down....
good luck with it.
