Topic: RE: Wow 10 Months!!!
Hi Lisa,
Congrats on the weightloss!!! You are an inspiration to me Keep checking in on the board. I love to hear from people who r further out than I am!!!
I didn't exercise this week either. I was so good and then i started a new job this past week and I lost momentum. I need to get back on track. I think I am still losing, but I am not sure since I weigh in at the gym. I am going tomorrow morning for sure!
Hugs,
Sara

Hi Lakeea,
I am so sorry you are feeling frustrated! It is really tough when the scale says something you don't want to see. here is my advice. Only weigh in once a month. I did that early on and it was very helpful. Also at this point just make sure you follow your doc's eating plan. Even if you can eat something it doesn't mean its a good choice. Don't push your limits this early. This is the time to make good food choices and get into the grooveof your new lifestyle
Really it will get better and the weight will come off. I had a big loss really early and then it slowed down for a few weeks. Remember your body is still in shock from the surgery and it could take some time for your body to learn to burn its stored fat as fuel. Please don't dispair...you will be alright! Try to stay as positive as possible because stress can also hinder your weightloss.
Big Hugs,
Sara

Topic: RE: KEEPIN' IT REAL!
Hey Indie,
Great questions!!! OK, First the things I don't like....spending so much money on clothes I can only wear for a month and feeling sick when I overeat or eat too fast.
I was in realatively good health at the time of surgery, but I was on my way to a host of problems being so big, so I would have to say i would have had the surgery either way. I am by no means skinny, but I feel so much better physically.
I had no choice but to have the VBG. I was scheduled to have the RNY but my small intestine is too short to safely do the bypass, so my surgeon gave me the VBG instead. At first I was upset, but the VBG has been a great option for me. I can eat normally in small portions without the fear of dumping syndrome which is great. I also feel like I have more responsibility for my own success because I absorb all the food I eat. It makes me watch myself more closely and exercise more.
I researched surgery for 4 years, so there wasn't really anything I didn't know. There were things I didn't believe, like the fact that I would feel full after eating so little, but that really does happen
I hope this answers your questions! Good luck to you
Hugs,
Sara

I am pre op, and have a couple of questions about wls, and I need some honest answers.
1.) Name something about your post op experience that you don't like?
2.) If you were told that wls surgery would make you healthier, but not skinnier, would you still have had the surgery.
3.) Knowing now, what you didn't know then, would you still have had the type of wls surgery you chose (i.e. Lap band, RNY, DS etc..) Why?
4.) What are somethings that people didn't tell you pre op, that you wished you would've know?
Please be transparent when answering these questions. I've asked a lot of questions on these boards, but I feel like sometimes people give these "Stedford Wives" type of answers. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE hearing the good stuff, but I also want to here about the not so good stuff, so that I can get a clearer view.

Topic: Wow 10 Months!!!
Never did I think about how I'd be feeling 10 months out from surgery.
I've lost 143 lbs according to the doctors scale in January. I started this journey at 415 lbs and I am 5'4" tall. I am now at 272. Wow! I have to lose another 15 lbs by the time I go back to the doctor March 20. I hope I can do it! I hate disappointing him!
I have been exercising Tue-Sat every week. Going to the gym. Walking on the treadmill and doing weights. Then, I got the flu and oral surgery. So, I haven't worked out for over a week! GASP! Not good!
I just want to be healthy and happy!
I hope everyone is doing well!

Topic: RE: Infection at suture site
Lia -
Please let me know what Dr. Harberg tells you. I had surgery in March of last year and I STILL have a spot on my incision that pops up every now and then w/ infection. I'm convinced it's a suture that wants to come out, but not sure. I had Dr. Harberg as well, but haven't been back to him in a while.
Thanks!

Definitely Do not panic! If you're like me you're probably thinking, "am I going to be the one person this doesn't work for?" At 3 weeks out I was eating solid food, but I could not eat much. I started walking the day after I came home from the hospital and have walked at least a mile 5 days out of the week since surgery (give or take a few lazy days!). Anyway, my surgeon told me to eat what I had normally eaten just less of it. He said your best bet is meat and some vegetables, but I also ate pasta, refried beans, soups, etc... I would eat a homemade hamburger patty (well, part of it) with melted cheese on top and some BBQ sauce. Now, I know everyone can't handle this kind of stuff so I'd be careful with that. THe only thing I really avoid is bread that isn't toasted. Sometimes I can get some bread down without feeling uncomfortable, and sometimes I can't. Honestly, I think if you avoid snacking and get some walking in each day (this gets easier and easier) than you can't help but lose weight. Hang in there...you're doing great!!! I would go without losing and then all of a sudden be down 4 pounds so don't worry about it.
