Why does everyone think that if you lose 30 lbs in 2-1/2 mos. that is slow. That is wonderful. Keep up the good work.

Topic: RE: Why VBG
Hi Kristi,
I did not have a choice about which surgery I had. I went in for the RNY and ended up with the VBG instead because my anatomy was weird. My small intestine was too short to do the bypass safely, so my surgeon gave me the VBG. I couldn't be happier with my surgery!!! I love the VBG. I think its great and I love that I don't have to worry about B-12 and malabsorption and all that. I am 7 months out and down 94 pounds. With the VBG exercise is key to success, but I believe all surgeyr types are just tools and we are in charge of our own success.
If you have any direct questions for me please feel free to email me any time
Good luck on your journey. I wish you all the best!!!
Big hugs,
Sara

Therapy might be useful to help you work through the self-sabotage. And also to help you better manage your expectations. "lose big in a short time"...well, that's probably not realistic and since that's not happening, you're giving yourself permission to go crazy with food again and sabotage what you've already accomplished.
It's not a race. Faster isn't better. It's just faster and in fact has more long term repercussions (more lean tissue lost, for example).

Hello Gwen i'm suppose to have the VBG in May because of my age they recommanded this type of surgery just like you said it is not as evasive as the RNY and you do not get all the side effects either. How are you doing so far with your weight loss? I would love to know i'm getting alittle nervious as it gets closer. Sincerely Cher
Topic: RE: HAS ANYONE BEEN ABLE TO KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF??
I am approaching 4 years post-op. It is common after any WLS to have some regain. The key is to keep an eye on your weight and learn when to put on the brakes.
I did regain about 20 pounds simply because I decided I could eat a sweet here and there ! I caught what I was doing and went back to my post-op eating pattern, upped my water and protein intake and the weight came back off. I am holding steady with my loss after 4 years so YES--you can keep it off.
WLS is not a cure but a tool and it is up to us to care for our tool. If you get a new car you don't drive it 100,000 miles and never change the oil and rotate the tires. We have to treat our VBG like an expensive car. Keep it serviced properly and it will continue to give good service.
Topic: RE: Why VBG
I had the VBG because I did not want to commit to a life of B-12 injections and basically having my "innerds" rerouted. The VBG is easily reversed should problems later come up. With the more invasive surgeries it is more complex to reverse.
People will tell you that VBG always fails. That is NOT TRUE. The common reason for failure is WE fail the VBG by eating around the surgery by continuing to eat sweets.
You will lose slower with the VBG but to me it was the healthier choice.
Topic: RE: Help, I am gaining weight!!!
I have never smoked BUT after 3 years I started regaining weight. I gained about 20 pounds before I said WOAHHHHHHHH. I went back to eating more protein and started drinking WATER, WATER, WATER. Within 4 weeks the pounds were gone.
Have you had any change in medication? That can also be a culprit.
