Topic: If you've had the actual vertical banded gastroplasty....
Hi, my name is Shawna. I got the vertical banded gastroplasty in Cardston, Alberta by Dr. Hollingsworth. Less than 6 months later i noticed the restriction had disappeared. For real. I lost about 40 pounds in that first 6 months.
I had a few Scopes finding The staple line was broken down by half. My original doctor didn't want to touch it. Dr. Nohr said it wasnt suitable to revise to rny.
A year later i lost some more due to my own efforts - I was getting married. In the last 11 years i have lost probably 300 pounds. Oh, yeah and gained 350. Today i weigh 315 +/-10 pounds. I'm in communication with Dr. Gagner for a revision. He is recommending the intestinal part of the ds surgery.

This is where I'm at.
What is your experience with the actual vertical banded gastroplasty?

Topic: RE: I GOT SLEEVED YESTERDAY!!
Thanks. I had my first follow up appointment yesterday. The surgeon and her nurse were so well pleased with the way the incisions looked, they said I am healing well. I am actually afraid to eat any thing other than soft food so I am not getting enough protein. I've read Sooooo many horror stories on this site about people eating the wetting thing that I am afraid to incorporate new food. But because I am going back to work Monday I will do a little at a time. I will be updating my blog regularly so follow me.

Omg!!!I was pouting like a baby when they took that pump from me. The other pain meds did absolutely nothing for me. So when I got home I took Ibuprofen that I already had which eliminated the pain.

Being a Dental professional I Have to say : BRUSH & FLOSS and Don't forget to Brush your tongue

That being said I also look for the health risks in everything ( but that's just me enlightened)

Sorbitol, one of the most commonly used artificial sweeteners in chewing gum and candy as well as liquid medications, is poorly absorbed in the intestines, giving it the qualities of an osmotic laxative at higher doses….

….The authors say consumers are generally unaware of the possible side-effects of sorbitol, even though details are included in the small print of foods containing it. When consumers have gastronomical problems they are unaware that they may be caused by the laxative effects of sorbitol.

The authors conclude that sorbitol consumption may not only cause chronic diarrhea and functional bowel complaints, but also significant unplanned weight loss of about 20% of body weight. Any investigation of unexplained weight loss should include a detailed dietary history with regard to sorbitol-containing foods.

Also known as glucitol, sorbitol is a sugar alcohol. The body metabolizes it slowly. It is obtained by reduction of glucose changing the ether group to an addition hydroxyl group – hence the name sugar alcohol.

Sorbitol can be found in cough syrups, sugar free mints, chewing gum, diet foods, diet drinks and ice creams. Sorbitol occurs naturally in some stone fruits and berries from trees of the Sorbus genus.

Sorbitol is also used as a non-stimulant laxative. It is either an oral suspension or a suppository. It draws water into the large intestine, stimulating bowel movements.

Most people don't consume, eat, chew 15+ mints gums etc...Daily BUT its something to consider if you start having gastrointestional issues
