I know the hair loss thing is normal, but I have stopped having periods. Had one right after surgery and haven't had another since. It's been 3 months. Anyone else have this problem(or blessing, lol)?...Also having dizziness, fatigue, irritability, headaches, etc.... Don't get me wrong, I love the weight loss.....55 lbs down in 14 weeks 294/239/170

Hello, Yes, not having a normal period is a side effect. All the things you listed are normal after ANY surgery.. not just WLS. If you feel that you are being taken over by them, then you should see you doctor. Remember you are starving your body. And although you are doing it in a controled way you are still starving, dizziness, fatigue, irritablility and headaches are all things you will feel for awhile do to what you are doing to your body. You are doing really well, focus on that. Heather 294/230/151

Hi Lia, I was always irregular before my VBG and now I am regular for the most part, so it stands to reason that WLS can mess with your cycle. Just check with your doc to make sure everything is ok. If you are sexually active make sure you are taking precautions too because weightloss make some people really fertile. I can't tell u how manypeople i know who have gotten pregnant right after WLS. Although all these could be side effects I would check with your doctor and maybe get some blood work. You may not be getting enough nutrients in and that isn't a good thing even if you are losing weight.

Yes very common. We store estrogen in our fat cells; as we shed fat, extra estrogen is released into the body and can cause hair loss and irregular periods. Nancy 394/275/180

This may sound stupid, but if we have too much estrogen floating around, does that put us more at risk for breast cancer, etc...?

Im not having irregular periods....I'm having NO periods....it's been 4 months....Doc took blood and all that was out of whack was my iron...It was low, but that's it....my weight loss has slowed down, so I thought my periods would start up again, but haven't....is there anyone else that is going months without one...not skipping a month here or there, but nothing!
