Why VBG
Hi
I am learning and researching wls. I want to learn about all types before i make a decision. Right now i am leaning towards the DS but would like to research more.
My question is Why did you all choose VBG? Was it your decision or did the doctor recommend it to you?
After having VBG, do you wish you would of had another type?
Sorry for all the questions but i have so much to learn.
Thanks for your comments
Kristi
I had the VBG because I did not want to commit to a life of B-12 injections and basically having my "innerds" rerouted. The VBG is easily reversed should problems later come up. With the more invasive surgeries it is more complex to reverse.
People will tell you that VBG always fails. That is NOT TRUE. The common reason for failure is WE fail the VBG by eating around the surgery by continuing to eat sweets.
You will lose slower with the VBG but to me it was the healthier choice.
Hello Gwen i'm suppose to have the VBG in May because of my age they recommanded this type of surgery just like you said it is not as evasive as the RNY and you do not get all the side effects either. How are you doing so far with your weight loss? I would love to know i'm getting alittle nervious as it gets closer. Sincerely Cher
Hi Kristi,
I did not have a choice about which surgery I had. I went in for the RNY and ended up with the VBG instead because my anatomy was weird. My small intestine was too short to do the bypass safely, so my surgeon gave me the VBG. I couldn't be happier with my surgery!!! I love the VBG. I think its great and I love that I don't have to worry about B-12 and malabsorption and all that. I am 7 months out and down 94 pounds. With the VBG exercise is key to success, but I believe all surgeyr types are just tools and we are in charge of our own success.
If you have any direct questions for me please feel free to email me any time Good luck on your journey. I wish you all the best!!!
Big hugs,
Sara
