Hello everyone I am scheduled to have the vsg on 4/22/05 I am wondering if any others have had this surgery and are familiar with the recovery and weight loss capabilities is it more, less or equally effective as traditional vbg in the opinion of others that are familiar with it. any info from others or questions that I may not be thinking of for the surgeon would be helpful at this time. Just want to cover all bases before going in......Thank You Dee

The whole point of the banded portion of the VGB (or purpose of AGB, the lap-band, because both work in very similar ways) is to prevent the stoma (opening that food goes through) from getting too big so the patient has long-term help with portion control. The VSG doesn't have this so I'm not sure the the long-term results would be any different than the traditional old stomach staple without banding to support the stoma. Nancy 394/275/180
