hi, my VBG surgery is scheduled for 8/23. Im just wondering what is the average amount of time that most of you spent in the hospital. Anything I should watch out for especially? Also how much time did you take off of work? I am thinking that two weeks will prob be fine for me as I have mostly secretarial type of job. I have presurg appt with the dr and the hospital on the 17th. I guess they will tell me some of what I was wondering but just wanted to hear from "the real world". Thanks, I enjoy reading your posts. Hello Mary, I have open VBG back in October. I was in the hospital for 4 days. The only "glitch" I had was that my IV infiltrated. I was "pumping" the morphine into my arm and not my vein. Did'nt know it at the time though. If they bring you real food post op don't eat it; tell them that you just had WLS and should be on "liquids". Believe it or not they brought me food; but I refused it. I took 2 weeks off of work. I found I was tired around 1:00 and could have used a nap each day but I made it through. When I would get home from work I would cook my son supper and that was about all the energy I had for the evening. I would go to bed around 8:00 p.m. each night. I also have a secretarial type job. Good luck to you with your upcoming surgery. The first couple of months you will "figure" things out and then it is a relative breeze. Keep posting your questions... we are here and we care!
