my surgery was 072604. As of tuesday 081004 i have lost 27 lbs. HOWEVER, I really feel like crap. I am depressed, my mouth has a constant bad taste, i have heartburn (even though i am on strictly liquid). also, how do you now if you have streched out your pouch. Can liquids strech your pouch. I seem to be able to sip an awful lot of liquids. or at least clear liquids like crystal light or water. I cant seem to stick to the 2 oz per hour because i am soo thirsty. I do however stick to the 2oz when it comes to something like cream of "whatever" soups. I just cant wait to get back to feeling NORMAL. I am just soo tired of feeling sick all the time. Please someone tell me there is a light at the end of this tunnel SOON!! also, 27lbs seems a little low. I dont think my scale has moved in 2 days!!

Good Morning Valerie, 27# is plenty of weight to have lost this early on. Everyone loses at different rates. Your body will reach a point where it will stop losing for a little while so that it can "catch up". Even when you are not losing pounds does not mean that you are not losing inches. You have just undergone a major surgery; your body needs to adjust and so do you. I would certainly call the surgeons' office and tell them about the heartburn. Perhaps they will have some insight. If you doctor advises you to only drink 2 oz of water an hour try to adhere to his recommendation. You need to give your pouch time to heal. There must be a reason for the 2 oz of water per hour. If you find that you can not adhere you should probably contact your surgeon for clearance. Imagine your pouch to be similiar to your bathroom sink -- if you pour water into the sink it goes right through the outlet. Now that will only happen if the outlet is "clear", in your case; no swelling, i.e. a big enough outlet. Now pour cream of "whatever" soup in the sink and it will pass more slowly; just like in your new pouch. As far as feeling "normal" again I would say it probably took me close to 2 months -- I would have to check my profile to feel "sure". However... you sound fine to me. If you continue to feel depressed let your doctor or surgeon know -- don't let it get to far gone. It is fairly common to have depression after surgery. Best news is they can give you medication to get you through it. Relax, enjoy the journey -- the benefits of WLS are amazing -- you are in for the ride of your life...enjoy! Valerie, I remember that I was still thinking the same thing when I was about 3 months out! For some reason I had severe pain with my surgery that lasted quite a while. I can't imagine how some people feel back to normal within a month or two. Give it time. It's true as Sharon said, that everyone heals at different rates. You are doing GREAT! Tammy 8/28/01
