I wish this board was more active. I guess not many people have VBG. I guess that makes us a special little family. Once I have my surgery I would like to be more active! I am in the process of taking pre op pictures and measurments! I really hope my taste changes like what I have read of others because protein is GROSS! It makes me feel like I want to it does not sit well with me now.. what am I going to do post op??? Annette Open VBG 8-13-04

Hi Annette! Welcome to the board! I know of at least 3 people that post to this board daily (including me!)You are welcome to join us. We usually talk about what our goals are for today and whether or not we reached those goals, but any topic is welcome. It's true that VBG is one of the least common surgery types these days, but everyone needs to make the decision that is best for them and their individual situation. If you do not get enough protein, your body will let you know in lack of energy and possibly hair loss. But there are many options available to you! Soy and other beans contain plenty of protein, along with nuts, dairy, and the ever popular protein shake (now who Wouldn't want a nice frosty chocolate shake???). I avoid red meat and can't eat pork, so I eat a little poutry and fish, but get most of my protein from soy, refried beans, and chocolate protein shakes. Good luck on your surgery, my prayers will be with you! Tammy

This board is only as "active" as we as a group of VBG'ers makes it. I personally come here atleast once every day. I make an effort to respond to every single post that comes to the board. Keep in mind that there are probably many "lurkers" to the board who do not post ~~ even if they don't post they are still getting something by coming here. If you keep coming and posting we will get stronger one person at a time! Soon this board will be "humming" along. My taste in food didn't change much post op. I still like the same foods; not that I can eat them all. I do however make different; more healthy choices now. You can always do protein shakes/bars to get that protein in if you do not like protein based foods. You would be amazed with the amount of protein you can get in with Hood yogurt/cottage cheese/milk products. Good luck and keep on coming here for support! Best Regards Sharon -115
