Gained 50lbs back
It's been a little over 3 years since my VBG. I have gained 50lbs back of the 100 that I originally lost. It took me 1 year to lose 100lbs and then 2 years to gain 50. I have a really hard time keeping protein down...I basically just throw it back up, especially hamburger meat of any way, shape or form. I am trying Weigh****chers right now, but am very discouraged as I only lost 3.4lbs the first week and haven't lost anything the next two weeks....and I can't even eat the whole days worth of food. Anybody else seem to have this problem? Has anyone else out there tried Weigh****chers? I don't know what to do. I don't want to put anymore back on. I know I should have made more of an effort to take it off when it started coming on at the beginning, but I guess I thought that it wouldn't get this out of hand. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.
Hi Kristi,
My experience is very similar to yours. I've gained back 30 of the original 65 that I lost, and it's been almost 3 years since my surgery. I have trouble with pork, and other meats if I don't chew really really well.
I haven't tried weigh****chers but I know of a few people who have had good luck with it. I'm considering it.
Like Sharon suggested in another thread, try fitday.com to keep track of all your eating. Maybe that will help! She also has some great 'pouch rules' on her profile.
My advice- drink lots of water, don't eat sweets or fats, and exercise daily. (hmm, if I did this, I never would have needed surgery!)
Good Luck!
Tammy
Hi Kristi,
Have you been back to see your surgeon recently? I checked out your profile but you haven't updated it since 2001. So no help there. Your last post seemed to indicate that perhaps you were surffering from depression. How is that now? Perhaps you need to start with your surgeon and see if your pouch is still intact (no staple line disruption), etc by doing a barium swollow test. If it is still intact than you just need to get back to basics. By basics I mean eat mainly protein; eat 3 protein meals a day and 2 healthy snacks, do not drink with your meals, drink 64 oz of water a day, no sugar soda, take your vitamins and exercise. And keep coming here for support. You may want to start updating your profile as well so that we have further information to go off of to encourage and assist you.
I think the most beneficial thing I have done for myself and my life besides WLS is individual counseling to deal with my self-hate and domestic abuse issues. For the first time in my life I care enough about myself to do what is good for me. It took almost 3 years of counseling to get to this point. But it does happen.
Care enough about yourself to require more of yourself. Do what you need to do to get yourself healthy and happy, not what is easy. I say this a lot but I mean it each time I say it... believe in yourself!!! You can do it.
My Committment to Myself Today is: To log everything I eat for the day in Fitday and to make it 50% protein! Wish me luck
Best Regards .... keep coming back! We care and will support you!

Kristi,
I am in the same boat. I am going to ww with my daughter. I lost 4 lbs in one week when I did the following. Breakfast- cereal
Lunch-fruit and ultra yogurt
Snack-more fruit and yogurt
(Cantaloupe,strawberries,grapes
blueberries)
Dinner-Weigh****chers Shake
Walk on treadmill 45 minutes
I only did that one week and did so good. But fell off the wagon again. I am going to do it again next week. I know I`m losing when I go to bed hungry. We`ll just have to keep on trying. I`m sure not giving up and I know you don`t want to either. We went through too much. Good Luck and lets keep each other posted.
We are new at this but our Dr said 2-2-2 -----2 multi vitamins 2 caloric intakes (meALs) and 2 qts of liquid per day. I dont understand yet all of the problems with the surgery but this seems like a second chance for us and I dont ever want to gain back. Dave is 6 days out and we are working really hard to figure out the long term changes we need to make to lose and keep it off - it seems like we can do it . Good Luck to you all
Congratulations David on your recent surgery. I hope that everything is still going well for you. Taryn I hope you get to have surgery soon.
Please feel free to join us more often on the VBG message board. Have questions? Just ask away... we will answer!
