VBG is Vertical Banded Gastroplasty. I had it back in 1988-1989. I don't know if they even do it any more. If you ever heard the term back in the day about "getting your stomach stapled", that's what VBG is. They made a small pouch out of your stomach with staples and a band that did not allow you to eat much. You could drink a large amount or eat a large amount of soft food like mashed potatoes or ice cream for example. MOST people with VBG did not get all the way skinny. Yes, you lost weight, but if you ate too much ice cream or high calorie sodas, etc. you gain weight back.

Good idea to do your research and there are more options available these days. Not all insurances cover all types of surgery, so you need to check that out unless you can afford to pay cash for it.

God bless and I hope you find the best WLS that works for you!
