I had a vertical banded gastroplasty done twenty years ago.  It went  well  the first few years but have gained back what weight I had lost  then some.  Recently found out that I have a fistula and the surgery needs to be redone.  I also have a large ventral incisional hernia that needs repaired.  Has anyone had this happen to them?  If they had a redo where did they have it done?

You might want to try the revisions board.  They would probably be able to give you a little more advice.  The VBG board is VERY slow.  Sorry I can't help, but good luck this time around.  They've made SO many improvements to the surgery, it'll go much better now!

I had mine done in 1986, and like you the weight is back. My only complication has been with my esophagus. I had to have it dilated a few times becausr things became "stuck". I can now eat everything in large amounts.
I also have a ventral hernia ( no big deal for me, I'm fat and this happens).
Now the fistula is something else.... Do you have a "leak" of stuff into your abdominal cavity or is your internal staple line popped and food is moving from your pouch into the tied off portion of your stomach?
I was all set for a RNY, since my insurance company will pay for this, but then I found out about DS (which the insurance company never mentioned, but also covers). I am looking for someone who 1) does revisions and 2) has had some experience with a VBG to DS.
I have found this  web site to be so helpful. Keep reading you may get your answer.
Let me know if I can be of help.
