Okay, I really need  some help to know what might be going on with me.  Back in June of 1987, when I was 15 years old, I had the VBG done.  Side Note: (I just actually found out yesterday that that's what the procedure was.  I've been working for MONTHS to obtain copies of my surgery notes from the hospital, and I finally got them in my hands yesterday!)   So I was 15, no pre-op education, no post-op education, nothing.  For years I have thrown up, especially if I eat meat or meaty foods.  I've gained ALL of my weight back, plus more, and some days I am just miserable.  There are weeks that I will throw up almost every day and some weeks just once or none at all.  Why is that?  I've been doing this for 20 years and I'm so tired of it!  Some days it just hurts for food to finally go down.  I'm starting the process of checking into revision surgery for myself, but is it normal to have these complications?  Also, back in 1987, how did a VBG work?  I'm not really even sure what they did to me.  If you can help shed light onto my 20 year mystery, I would truly appreaciate it.  Now that I know the exact procedure I had done, I'm going to do some research.  Thanks so much! Me too.  same exact response.  I am going to get a revision to a gastric sleeve maybe add the DS later.    A lot of people got ripped off with this procedure.

Same story, different date & patient.  My VBG was 9 years ago.  No pre-op.  No post-op.  No support.  I'm in the pre-surgical stages of revision to a lap-band.  I really wanted the RNY, but because I developed Crohn's Disease over the past 8 years, I'm not eligle for the bypass (too many life-threatening complications).   I'll be watching this thread.  Good luck to you.

Hi Cathy I had a revision from VBG/87 to Lapband/06 and am thrilled with my success to date.   Best wishes,

Donna,

Did you lose weight with the VBG?  If so, what made you decide to get the band?  If not, do you know why the VBG didn't work? My band doc told me that because I had the VBG (and failed with it), I would be 50% more likely to fail with the band, thereby making it much more difficult for me.  Have you found it harder to lose weight because of your previous VBG?

Thanks for any insight you can offer.  I really appreciate you replying.

Cathy

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE ACCESSED THIS WEBSITE.  I AM LOOKING FOR HELP FOR MY MOTHER.  SHE HAD THE VBG ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO.  I THINK THE SURGERY HAS GONE BAD BUT NOONE KNOWS WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT.  SHE SUFFERS EVERY DAY AND IS LUCKY TO CONSUME 200 CALORIES A DAY.  SHE HAS NO ENERGY.  SHE HAS NO STAMINA.  SHE DOESNT EVEN COOK OR CLEAN THE HOUSE.  SHE IS DEPRESSED AND WE ARE ALL DESPERATE TO SEE IF ANY ONE ELSE OUT THERE IS IN THE SAME BOAT AS HER AND WHAT THEY DID TO HELP THE SITUATION. THANKS FOR ANY HELP
