7 years later
hi there,
i had the VBG surgery 7 years ago. it worked well for a time, then began reversing, i thought it was something id done so stupidly broke contact with my surgeon. now, 7 years after the fact i did a 2 day fast to detox my system, and it seems the band went back into place. so far ive lost 19lbs in three weeks.
is this normal? i just cant understand why it went back on, or what made it come off all those years ago. i guess im looking to see if anyone else has a similar experience.
thanks
susie
If you got your surgery to work with you again, you're very fortunate. I had a VBG three years ago. I lost 90 lbs in six months, and then I found out that the staple line ruptured. My surgeon said it was because of me vomiting. I gained back about 90% of the weight I had lost. I recently underwent a revision to the RNY. I'm losing again, and I couldn't be happier. I try really hard to baby my pouch now; I don't want to take any chances. I hope you continue to be successful. Good luck!
I actually had VBG twice - the first one wasn't vertical, but basically the same. The first time my staple line came open, and the second time, like you, I didn't bother to check what went wrong. I had the surgeries done in different towns by different doctors - I just knew I wasn't having it done again, so what did it matter why it didn't work! My last one was done in the mid 80's. I never lost more than 20 lbs from either surgery, but I still have some issues with the band and/or staple line. It all depends on what I eat, how fast I eat, what I've had to drink while I eat . . . but I still really can't eat a serving size of 'regular' people. Why do you think it's the band? I sometimes think that my staple line has 'fused' or scarred closed like it was supposed to, or something like that. Maybe the 19lbs is a result of the detox helping your system and has nothing to do with the surgery?
