Recommend Commonwealth Surgeons over at Bon Secours St. Mary's - Dr. Bautista or Dr. Hutcher, both excellent. Great nurse practioners too and excellent hospital. Good luck and welcome to Richmond.

Hi everyone, I currently live in norfolk, but due to my husbands new promotion, we will be moving to richmond. I already had my surgery date of 10.18.2010, because of the move and the 1.5 hour commute it would be to see my surgeon, i have decided to postpone my surgery until we move :(. So my question is, Do anyone know of any good surgeons in richmond or close to there? I called one place in richmond and was told that I have to start the whole process ALL OVER AGAIN!!!! but i think its for the best......HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used Bon Secours (DePaul) and only met with the nutritionist once before surgery. I do have follow-ups scheduled after surgery.

Dr. Trahan is with Martha Jefferson Hospital and did my Gastric Bypass he and his staff are wonderful and I highly recommend him. Good luck on your journey :)

Kimberly,

There is a bariatric surgery center in Roanoke, VA. They have several surgeons who have performed hundreds and hundreds of bariatric surgeries.

The surgeon I've chosen is Dr. Dort. He has an excellent track record. I've interviewed many of his patients and there have been no major complications reported from any of them. His medical history is also excellent - no reported malpractice in VA.

The surgery center is owned by Carilion and you can find more information about them online.

Thank you guys....Your input means alot and gave me some things to think about. I think what I need to do is take a little step back and take my time to make an educated decision. I tend to get anxious and want things to be done right away. I just need to remember that it is all going to still be there and to just breath (I've always had this thing with holding my breath when I get anxious...lol..lol). I will definitely keep the updates coming.

P.S. My insurance is CareFirst/BCBS.
