Topic: Ready to self-pay for VSG - need recommendations
Hi, I am finally ready to self-pay and want to have the VSG by 31 March 2011.

Johns Hopkins charges just under $18000.00.

Am curious what other options there are in Maryland/Virginia area.

Thanks!!

Sheri

Sentara has a nice program in Norfolk. Bon Secors has a great support group in Suffolk and VA Beach. What part of town will you be in? I am assuming Navy wife b/c of the pic, yes?

I had weight loss surgery. I did it the easy way.

Hello   Congratulations on your surgery.  I am in No Va.  Not familiar with the area.   Suggest asking your current doctor for a recommendation for a doctor.  Call the office and ask for local support groups.  Try the local hospitals they my have support groups

Hopefully someone will chime in with a local support group.   Good luck

Update: After speaking with someone at the University of Virginia, I proceeded to my PCP to be placed on a diet and exercise program which will have to be documented for 6 months before Medicaid will approve the procedure. My PCP placed me on  Phetermine, a 1960 calorie diet, and 30 mins of brisk walking every day. We'll see how it goes!

Oh and I would like to add to Julie's response.  I'm 3 years going strong and not dead.  GEEZ.  I just can't believe that person said that.  YES there is risk, but that is with ALL major surgery.  NOT gastric bypass alone...

SIGH.  DEAD?  why the HELL are these people working in bariatric surgery.  #1 - I would report that person.  #2 - seek a second opinion.  I agree with Jill - Gerd MAY be increased with lap band.  Have you considered other options?  please update up us on your progress!
