Welcome! I see you have Dr. Trahan listed as your surgeon, are you coming to Charlottesville for your surgery?
I had bypass done 3 weeks ago, so I am a newbie to all this. Good luck!

Topic: just moved and need a good gastic doctor
I had gastric bypass three years ago and am having alot of complications. Does anyone recommend a certain doctor. I am tring for a reversal.

I lost 130 pounds. Six months in I started having major problems. Blackout, seizures, low blood pressure, high heart rate, I have been getting the run around from every specialist. No one knows the root they just treat and bandaid their specailty. I am on 17 medications. It has been three years and I am at my breaking point. I had this done to have a better lifestyle. But with all of these problems I have gained almost all my weigt back. I still dont eat alot at settings. I dont know if the meds are creating the problems with weight gain or what. I have heard you can have a reversal and lap band. Has anyone had these complications? I had RYN. Please someone give some avice and recommend a doctor to me. I am living in North Carolina but am about 50 minutes to Cheaspeake, VA.

I, too, am a Navy wife and I had my surgery done at Depaul Medical Center through the Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss group. I know that they do have support group meetings as the lady above stated...I haven't been to any but the mandatory one to have surgery so I can't really comment on how the meetings are :/ You may want to check with Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. My friend had hers there and I'm not sure if they have support group meetings but they probably do! If you check and find out anything let me know cuz I would also like to connect with Navy wives who've had rny.

Ok   Relax and slow down........  Keep fluid in hand all day long keep sipping and sipping.     You need to hydrate.  It will help you feel better.    Has anyone recommended liquid Isosure protein?    It is a thick drink but is high in vitamins and whey protein that are easy for you to digest .. you can thin it with water....    Liquids and proteins are very i mportant to healing and feeling better.   Isosure may help you feel better if you are not getting in enough.     Suggest the orange pinapple flavor.      But I think you just need to get in fluids.

Understand its a very emotional time. I was 52 when I had my VSG.    Been there and just keep in mind that each day gets a bit better.    Keep focused on the future and what is to come.   Stay positive.

If concerned give the doctor or nutrionist a call ....

Take care and welcome to the loosers bench

Not sure where you live ....   How about going to water aerobic classes.     You can meet people usually that are going thru similar surgery.     Bluepoint surgial offers support meetings, go and meet face to face some of the people.  You may connect with someone.   Ask the staff if they would listen up for a exersise buddy.

I prefer the solitude of a quiet pool but I also like the group water.    Prince William County has public offerings during the day and evening.   LA Fitness has a private pool with limits 16 years and older users.   Keeps the kiddies away.    I started going with my husband too.  Good for both of us.    Too cold right now but will start up in late March.

Post surgery you will take it slow and only get back to the gym with Dr Halmi's clearance.   Do not be in a hurry for agressive exersise take it slow and work your way back.    You will work up to it if you keep to a schedule.

I used a personal trainer for 3 months I was about 8 months out.  I stopped cuz of my gut was in the way making it hard to do crunches and other exersise.   I decided to see the plastic surgeon     He told me I would have never gotten rid of the gut even with the trainer.

Hey good luck and try networking

I have my surgery set for March 29 and i'm now thinking that I need to go to do more than just walking and start going to the gym. But I have had a hard time going since I don't have anyone to go with me. A few years back I did the same thing, only hired a trainer to go with me and as long as I wasn't by myself, I didn't mind going at all.  How do I get over this?

I am really getting tired of the babyfood consistency diet! I am also not getting the protein and water numbers I need to get.  I am 49 and this is my first major surgery other than c-sections 30 and 32 years ago. You sure recover differently when you're older! I have never been so weak and tired! I am seeing some weight loss but haven't weighed myself. I am leaving that for my first post op visiit on the 17th. My emotions have been all over the place. Overall though, each day is different ,and each day brings improvement.
