Topic: WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF OTHERS HAVE HAD REALIZE BAND SURGERY AT PORTSMOUTH NAVAL HOSPITAL,
I would like to know if there are others on this message board who have had the Realize Band surgery at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth VA and who the dr was who performed surgery.  I'm have a major setback - dr cannot find entry site to make adjustment,, and it is very frustrating when they tell me to come back in a month to try again.  12 weeks Post op with  no fills to date, and the dr who did my surgery deployed to Afghanistan before he was even able to give me the 1st adjustment.  I have seen a total of 3 different drs, and will be seeing a 4th dr in a couple of week.

Your surgeon would ask you to loose weight anyways in order to assist and shrinking your liver.
Also better to be get off the sugar and the carb, you will not have withdrawal post op.
Work with the nutrionist and you will do fne.

Good luck and keep in touch

Topic: A new thing to check off
Well after researching the boards and reading everything I knew to be prepared for the unexpected. I just didn't expect it the first day! The nutrinist had to step out of the room to make some more copies and when she came back she said she had some news. She said it's bad and they weren't sure how it would affect some of us in the room. It seems some insurance companies as of today had a new requirement, 10% of your starting weight has to be lost.

We're supposed to call back tomorrow afternoon to find out if our individual insurance companies have added this new box to check off. I had intended to wean myself off carbs over the next 7 days but tomorrow I'll be "on".

Hope nothing new pops out of the computer on this journey

Thanks so much for the reply Caroline. I'm not sure if Dr. Mo will do the surgery or if Dr. Naziz.
I'll have to ask next week for clarification on that.

Thanks to a nasty little stomach juju bug that I picked up last Spring from eating seafood every other day for a couple of months, I was forced to make that choice. I couldn't eat and drink at meals because I felt like I had swallowed a whale if I did. I realized while doing research that this was something I would have to continue if I chose to continue on the WLS journey. It's a part of life now so that's another box checked. I'm still not able to consume the amount of liquids that I used to do on a daily basis but it's ok.

Hi,
I'm starting my journey too my RNY is scheduled for the 24th of Feb 6 more days.  This time next week I'll be 1 day post op . I see your scheduled the following week. I'm on the Optifast diet right now so I'm a little hungry and avoiding the kitchen . Lol!  It isn't the worst thing I've done.  I'm excited about the surgery....I even went through my closet and set my clothes up in stages from the things I wear now to the used to wears....I even have a goal pair of jeans to get in to.  They are about 4-5 year ago jeans. Just a pair of inspiration and hopefully they won't fit me long and I keep losing. I have a long way to go. I have a chair in my closet and I sat in there today and inspired myelf some.  I went out and got my vitamins last weekend and this weekend will get the broths and surger free drinks I need. My family has been a wonderful support system and that helps me  keep focused and positive.    Take Care, Debbie

Hi,
How did you do on your post op visit? My surgery is on the 24th Feb. I'm excited and a little nervous. I'm 52 and this will be my first major surgery.  I'm on the Optifast diet now and a few days ago I was down 14 lbs.  I do miss food though, we normally go out and eat mexican food on friday night.  Havent missed a mexican night for 2 1/2 years.  Oh well Trying not to think about it too much.  Hope all is well with you.  Take Care, Debbie

Oh Dr Moazzez is superior surgeon    Did some research and chose him for superb reputation.   When nurses were asked who would you choose, they stated hands down Dr Mo.      He only works at Fair Oaks .... Fair Oaks Inova is first class all the way.

You do not want to use Potomac Hospital

Congratulations!   Start working towards detoxing and getting uses to not drinking and eating together.     Easier in post op, less withdrawals.

Keep in touch   Feel free to PM me

It's a newbie,
3 years, 11 months and 46 days that I've been thinking about WLS and I'm ready or at least I believe I am.

My doctor just smiled when I asked for a referral, Tricare Prime here, and said she was wondering why it took me so long. We discussed it in depth and she was just beaming. She's a woman of few words, no-nonsense doctor so it was very unusual to see her like this. I guess she does like me as a patient.

I attended my informational meeting at Blue Point on Monday, scheduled a date with Dr. Moazzez and then was able to get an appointment yesterday due to a cancellation. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Nain, he answered the questions that I had and overall came away with a great plan.
I'm scheduled for the mandatory Tricare requirement of 6 months of supervised diet/nut classes starting on Wednesday.

Has anybody had any experience with this doctor? I've read his bio and compared it to the original doctor that tricare has recommended.

I'm sure I'll have quite a few questions while taking my first steps on this journey.
Thanks,GG

Topic: RE: just moved and need a good gastic doctor
a friend of mine is still searching for answers to her seizures, you may know her as www.meltingmama.net   Her name is Beth, and really struggling.

I am in Norfolk VA, and I recommend Sentara Weight Loss. for a great surgeon.. Dr. Fontana and Dr. Woughelmuth...not sure I spelled Dr Woogie's name right cuz we call him Dr. W or Woogie.

Two very great surgeons.  I am local in Norfolk, and would love to share information.  I am on Facebook under Carla Cooper  or [email protected]

I travel all over for Obesity Help events and WLSFA.  I suck up as much informaiton as I possibly can.  I will also be going to the OH event in NY, and hope you can make it too.  The WLSFA event in Vegas in May will be a blast, and I will be attending that one too.

cell number is 757-615-3444.. Im on Verizon.
