Topic: 1 Year Surgiversary
Wow, I can't believe it's been one year since my gastric bypass surgery. In the first couple months the time went by so slow, due to not feeling well and looking at the scale every day wondering when the weight would come off. Once the weight loss started rolling, it has gone by so fast. I went from 248 to 140 in a year. Needless to say I look and more importantly feel like a new person. I went from buying a size 24 to a size 4/6. Running around with my three kids is so much fun. I got a bicycle and ride around almost every day. It feels so good just to be able to move my body. It's brought about a second honeymoon of sorts with my husband. Like most people I've talked to, my only regret is not doing this sooner. My WLS journey took two years to get approval from my insurance company and I never thought it would happen. I thank God every day that I finally got approved and had the surgery. I feel so good. To anyone out there having a hard time with the surgery or getting approval, somehow it will happen and you will feel better. I didn't believe it at the time, but it's true. Never give up. Information is key. I want to thank my surgeon, Dr. Anthony Terracina, for giving me my life back. It feels good to be among the living. Good luck to everyone out there.

Topic: RE: Dr. Anez
I am 5 1/2 years post op with Dr. Anez. As far as I know he is still affiliated with Fair Oaks for surgery but did move his office to Herndon. The only conflict I really know of with Fair Oaks was regarding the support group meetings & they were able to move those to a different location. I did not have any issues with Dr. Anez. Found him to be great, was the most comfortable with him after going to several informational meetings with other docs. His staff has always been great. My hospital experience was okay, they were in the middle of upgrading the bariatric wing so I was in a different room area & felt like the night time service wasn't the best but no real issues. I also used Dr. Anez for my gallbladder surgery about a year after my open rny. No issues there either
Although I have gained about 25 lbs back, that is my own fault as I am not follwoing the rules. The Dr., office & staff are always good about telling me what I should be doing and giving great tips and advice, I just haven't been great about following them.

Hi there!!
Count on me to be your accountability partner :) Do you have AIM or Yahoo messenger? If so, send to me on email and we can communicate that way more personally and regularly.
Dr. Schirmer was my doc and I live in Charlottesville. Sounds like we have alot in common already.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Great to hear from you Julie! I just did my bloodwork with my regular doctor She has all of my other bloodwork. She reviews all of my issues too. I keep to me basic schedule that the NUTs at Fair Oaks gave us. Keep to the vitamins... Only issue is my colesterol ... Gall bladder may be part of that but we are adjusting diet to make sure it goes down to.
Who is your OB?
Hey please keep in touch ! Newbies and oldies are not keeping up.... I got so much from the support on here. PM me. I have something you may be interested in ....

Just to add, even my OB out of Kaiser Reston is on friendly terms with Dr. M, which I found interesting. I've been really bad about not going to follow up appointments -- I had no idea things had changed so much. That sucks, to be honest.
At almost 5 years out, I am still down about 190 (I'm also 6 months pregnant and have gained a bunch of weight from that -- and am trying to go back to basics even now to counteract that, and it seems to at least be holding steady, yay!) and I would go back to Dr. M a thousand times over if I had it to do again. He knows what he is doing.

I am a little over 3 years out from Lap Band surgery and would love to have someone who I can share encouragement with on a more personal level than on the regular messageboard. It would be even better if that person lived close enough so that we could meet up sometimes and exercise together, etc. Contact me if interested. Thanks! : )
