This used to be a very sore subject for me. I heard the word Gym and all these horrific pictures and comments flew through my head! I was a definate NO WAY AM I GOING TO THE GYM type person. UNTIL! My very best friend and her mother went to this gym. She begged me to go with her and I continually refused. Then a job opened up in the day care and she asked me if I would go apply. I got the job. STILL NERVOUS about what everyone would think of me. With the job came the awesome FREE MEMBERSHIP that I refused to use for the first 2 months I worked there. Then one day one of the Dad's asked me if I work out here. I said no I was too embarrassed to. BIG MISTAKE. He asked me what I thought he looked like when he fist started and for that matter mostly everyone else when they first started. With that the next day I started working out. NERVOUS as all get out I did it. With each day I got more and more encouragement from the gym regulars. They were so happy to see me there TRYING to get myself in shape. And hearing them talk to eachother saying "you know Michele is really doing great...I can see her improvements already". The down and dirty is. Nobody really cares what you look like or how you jiggle on the tredmill...if you sweat buckets and smell like a skunk or not. They *the people we fear* are congratulating us and ROOTING for us! It all has to start somewhere. And ladies....trust me ...nothing is better than a sexy buff man coming up to you and giving you a great big hug or handshake and saying...keep it up...you are doing fantastic...want to work out with me tomorrow?! *BAWK* Oh..yeah sure! Now don't get me wrong there are still immiture children that go there and say stupid things but they are children and have no idea how to handle something different. Let's face it mostly all of them try to look and act the same. Very BORING. They just have to be ignored. Just give it a try. I know as soon as my surgeon gives me the go ahead I am THERE again in FULL FORCE. Fat Jigglin and all!

I work out at the local YMCA and although I'm down 150+ lbs, I still feel like there are people scrutinizing me. It's mostly in my head and I know it. I did, however, get my first flirtatious look the last time I was there. Some guy on the other side of the gym kep****ching me. I was alternating walking and jogging on the treadmill and caught him smiling at me. It felt nice to be noticed and I honestly had no idea what I would have said if he had come over to me. I'm happily married but I've NEVER been flirted with in my life (except by guys who thought I could give them money or things), so was totally unprepared. Believe me, the bad thoughts are mostly in your head. I've had only one woman say something discouraging while I was working out and two of the staff escorted her out of the room after they heard her say her nasty comment. Made me feel better. Hugs, Tonya
