Golden Corral Tip
Not sure if anyone does this, and Leilani thought it would be good to post it.
But, I have 2 big eaters in my house. So Golden Corral is both a Godsend and a disaster. BUT.... ever since surgery, my family and I go about 1 night per week.
The Golden Corral here lets me fill up a to-go box with whatever I want, pay for it, and eat with my family. So, I get my box, head for the proteins (steak, steamed shrimp, roasted chicken) and add a bit of veggies and voila.....dinner and lunch and it usually costs me about $3.00 on average.
Each night of the week is something different, which makes it even better because the choices are always the same. I've had steak, beef and chicken fajitas (without the shell), steamed shrimp, and chicken. I just stay away from those things that I would normally stay away from.
But....the best part is...........I can eat dinner and lunch for about $3.00 - $3.50 (depending on how much I load my container) AND still enjoy dinner out with my guys.
PS: Shoneys has to-go boxes, but many won't let you eat there. But, I've been given a discount because I ate so little.
PPS: And this beats having to show a card to explain that you have had surgery.
Good luck!

Naw. That's why you get the to-go box. Put in what you want (making protein choices first).
Pay and eat.
I like this, because I ALWAYS have a to-go box (no matter WHERE I go) and this one is ALOT cheaper than one from a real restaurant. Plus, just because I have to watch what I eat does not mean that my guys have to. Just ask hubby about his bag-a-day addiction (hehehehe).

I REALLY wish I'd known this as an EARLY POST OP - heck, even now it's valuable information.
I "choose" not to use restaurant cards and never have. That being said, I also respect the choices of those that DO use 'em.
There were several reasons I thought this was a good tip to share with the board. From what Im understanding of our conversation at lunch on Friday - IF you use the restaurant card at Golden Corral it allows you to pay for the CHILDS price, which in relation to "by the pound" price, ends up costing MORE?
So if I can get $3 worth of food (by the pound) to fill me up and still have leftovers to take home - it's a much better deal, verses, paying the kids price of $4 or $5.
Ive AVOIDED the Golden Corral, since my surgery, because of the "buffet aspect" of it, now that I know they'll allow me to pay by the POUND, which at 3 years out, still doesnt add up to much, Im all for going again!
Thanks for the tip, Jill!
Yes, that's correct and I completely forgot about that because I don't use the card.
BUT....my doctor gives us a card that we can use when we go out to eat. Same as the one floating around here at OH. And it asks that they charge us either the child's price or the senior price.
Well, it is $4.99 per pound, which is cheaper than the child's price of $6.99. PLUS, I can get 1 pound of food eat dinner and take the reat for lunch.
AND in all actuality, 1 pound of food is alot of food. I get enough for dinner and lunch and I think the most food I have packed into the container was a little over 1/2 pound.
We did seafood the other night (Friday) and filled my container up with steamed shrimp. When was the last time you bought steamed shrimp for $4.99 per pound???? Usually, you have to wait for it to go on sale.
But, I had about 25 pieces of shrimp, some steamed broccoli, seafood salad (1 scoop), grilled veggies and a small piece of steak. It came to $3.08 total. Not too bad.
