Military members-- tagged EFM after WLS?

I came across a post the other day (can't recall where) in which a wife had been tagged an Exceptional Family Member after her WLS and was not able to get medical clearance for an overseas assignment with her husband. Has anyone else had this experience or was this possibly due to other health problems she may be experiencing? Several months after WLS my husband will be choosing orders and we wonder if my post-WLS status will restrict where we can go. Also posting this on the Navy board. Thanks for any comments you can find time to leave!

she must be having some pretty bad complications for her to be in the is program, its got to be from complications. we are in the efmp and we can only go where there are major medical facilities. due to my sons disability.

Not sure why, but my son who has ADHD has been tagged as an EFM. And he is no longer on medication or anything like that. Jill

Thanks a lot ladies! Another forum pretty much told me not to worry about it as EFM is voluntary and you apply for it. Not sure what happened in Jill's case (should you call your PCM and ask?). Its possible she applied herself and then it came back to bite her in the hiney. This will ease my husband's mind a lot!

In WA, they tagged him as EMF so he could participate in programs to help him with the ADHD. But, once tagged, always tagged. I know it use to be a big deal, but I don't think so anymore. Jill

Good gawd almighty, I am SO OUT OF MY LEAGUE when it comes to this MILITARY jargo!!! Can ya' tell I married into the military world LATE in life? I never heard of anything even remotely called "tagged EFM" ...but from reading the replies, it doesn't look like something as simple (wrong word, but I'll use it) as GASTRIC BYPASS is enough to deem anyone a high health risk or worthy of being tagged. Or at least I think Im reading the replies right? Heck, if they wanted to TAG me, they shoulda done it when I weighed in at 400 lbs, much easier (bigger) target at that weight. Sooooo - um, TAG someone else is it, I don't wanna play!

I've never heard that either. My son is in the special needs program. But that didn't stop the CG from sending us to Alaska. Which in the military is concidered over seas... As far a WLS there are so many countries that do that, That shouldn't be a problem unless there are other things wrong. JILL WHERE WERE YOU!!!!!! Last night?????
