Proteinex
A while back someone posted about free samples of a product called Proteinex. I ordered the samples and have found it to be a nearly painless way to get some extra protein. It is a liquid supplement that you use 2 tablespoons of to get 15g of protein. I mix the 2 tablespoons with about 3 or so ounces of Crystal light and really don't taste it much at all. It is flavored with orange I think which helps with the taste. I have read that some people just take it like medicine off the spoon, but I prefer to mix it. I used the samples and just ordered some, it costs $25 for a 16 oz bottle. I got 4 doses out of the 2 oz. samples so do the math and see what a 16 oz bottle will do (32 doses?). Anyway, just thought I would put this out there for anyone who might be looking for an alternative to protein drinks. Good luck with the protein, protein, protein!! Lorraine
Well according to the literature they have been in business for 20 years and this is used by cancer patients, people with feeding tubes and gastric patients. It says it is protein derived by hydrolyzing (whatever that means) animal protein collagen. Says it is predigested protein, after it has been broken down to amino acids. I have an appointment with the doc on friday and am taking the product and literature to be sure it is a good alternative. Will write back with what my doc says. Seems ligite to me. It is handled only by medical distribution places, I would not think that reputable medical supply companies would handle a bogus product, but we will see. Sure hope it is a good thing!
Good question Cheryl
These "hydrolyzed collagen" products use an inexpensive, lower-quality protein source, hydrolyzed collagen, which has about one-third the essential-nutrient value of the same amount of whey protein.
The hydrolyzed collegen usually comes from enzymatically- or chemically-processing calf intestines, cow or pig skin and bones. Hydrolyzed collegen provides much smaller amounts of some of the essential amino acids. And the essential amino acids are the primary reason you need to consume protein.
So it isn't something that is bad for you, but for every 60 grams of protein you get this way, you might get only the benefit of 20 grams from a better source.

Thanks for the feedback Lorraine ....
I got my freebie in the mail yesterday but haven't tried it yet. Leave it up to me to get a flavor I absolutely HATE. My two least favorites (fruity wise) is cherry and grape, and I rec'd grape. lol, hopefully that in itself doesn't form my opinion before I drink it.
It sounds like you got the ORANGE flavored syrup?
What flavors did you order?
Thanks for all the feedback. Here is the website for the pharmacutical company that produces Proteinex http://www.llorenspharm.com./ . You can call their 800# and they will give you a list of medical supply companies that you can order direct from. I ordered from CWI medical, but will probably try another next time because they did charge me s/h and i noticed on llorenspharm site that there are two companies that have free s/h. As for the flavor,,,,,,,at CWI i did not see any choices, they only had one,,,,,,so its whatever I guess. I did not really care because I am going to disguise it in s/f friut punch anyway. I am anxious to take the literature to Dr. Hutcher's office on Friday and see what they think,,,,,,if they say is it a good form then I am going to use it faithfully. I am still coming up short daily with my protein,,,,,,yesterday had 50-55, got that by using the proteinex once and a 15g protein bar. I am four weeks out, have not been told i can use the bars yet, will ask friday. but it seems to settle well on my belly, only eat about 1/3 at a time and chew, chew, chew. I tried one called All in One by dexatrim,,,,,,,only 1/2 g of sugar, uses sucralose and has 15g protein. What do you all think of this bar? Thanks
