Hi all. Just wanted to tell you all about the worst pain I have ever been in. I spent this weekend at the hospital in the ER. I was having horrible pain in my right side. After a few tests they determined that I had a kidney stone. I have never had one before and pray I never get another one. The pain from this was worse than having a baby with no medication! (due to some complications during my pregnancy I chose to have a natural childbirth to help my daughter's chances of less complications after birth) With the amount of water I drink every day I did not think it was possible to get a kidney stone. The er dr. told me that after gastric bypass surgery we are more likely to get them. I had never heard this before. Have any of you? Now I need to do some research and find out why and what (if anything) I can do to prevent them! Tammy C

Tammy, I'm so SORRY you had to go through that. How are you feeling now. I have to admit I didn't realize that we were prone for kidney stones after surgery either. I pray you are feeling better. Jean

Hey, Tammy! I'm so sorry to hear of your weekend. Owie! How horrible. Hope you are feeling much better. I have heard that post-ops have an increased risk of kidney stones. Not sure what the reason is. I looked around the web and see it listed as a possible "complication" related to WLS but I didn't find the *why*. As you said, keeping well hydrated usually helps reduce that risk but obviously not enough. If I find anything on it... I'll let you know. I'm seeing surgeon tomorrow... I'll ask. Feel better! Kathy

Hey Tammy...You poor girl !! Well you DID give birth...to a rock !!!!!!!!!! I am a ER nurse so I am vary familiar with patients passing them. Once they get into your ureter the spasms will knock you over. Hopefully the pain meds relieved some of your pain and there are no more bolders in your bladder !!!! I have my fingers crossed for you !!! Big Hugs... Dana

Sorry you had such a painful weekend. I have heard of a girl that had them so bad she had kidney failure. I thought hydration was the answer but maybe not. I hope this is you last little battle w/ a stone. Be blessed. Shannon
