Liquid Blahs

Please help! I'm almost one week out, and living on liquids is getting REALLY hard. I'm not craving anything, but my gut feels SO empty, even when I have the SF jello (the only "solid" I am allowed) or some good broth. I am really struggling to even drink because I feel hollow and have no energy. I am also worried that when I do drink, it seems I can take 3-4 ounces before I feel signs of being full. Is that because it's liquid-does it go through fast enough that I won't feel as full as when I start the protein and semi-soft stuff?? I'm doing exactly what my doc said to do but feel like I must be screwing something up!! Elizabeth

actually, what it is, is that your stomach nerves haven't healed up yet so you won't feel "full" like you used to. For the most part, in the beginning, you won't feel anything. It took me a few weeks before I felt satisfied with anything in my tummy. It'll work, just relax and go with it. Hugs, Tonya

Elizabeth , Right now your new stomach is still healing .. you do need to keep the fluids coming in . If you have it .. and want a good warm filling treat .. try some chicken broth .. mixed with tasteless protein powder . I found that when I drank this I felt very satisfied .. warm and content . As for me .. I always feel full .. I think it is the amount of protien and fluids I do daily .. but I am almost 2 years out .. And you are not screwing anything up .. you are doing fine .. just keep the fluids coming in .. and it does get better . Hugs, Nat

When I was on liquids I sipped just about constantly. For me the empty felt good. I knew it meant I was losing. Stick with it, you will feel changes every day. Lois

Hey Elizabeth! I can't wait to feel that empty feeling...hoping it shouldn't be long now! Anyway, I am pre-op so feel free to disregard my advise . My billion page book that I got from the surgeon's office as says that yogurt counts as fluid...may feel a bit more filling...the nutritionist said the same thing when I met with her but I know that all doctors are different so you should probably check with them...something to look into. Have a great one! Christine
