protein supps
That was a concern I had. I inquired with the company that makes Profect to see if that could be diluted and taken throughout the day and they said yes, you can even make jello with it. So I asked the person who helped me with the powder in the store and she also said yes it would hold throughout the day. My clinic recommends something like an instant breakfast drink (sugar free of course) which would be make with skim milk and to drink it within a certain period of time. Don't know if that's because it would go bad with the milk or deteriorate or what. But when I get back from church I will check with vitalady.com as you suggested and see what's what.

Ah, you are talking about Profect. I thought you were talking about protien powders. I believe that those don't hold up when premixed. If the folks at Profect say that it can hold up and be diluted - that's awesome! Everyone has to find what works for them.
I know that many doctor's recommend Carnation Instant Breakfast (SF) mostly because it is less expensive and it is easier to get patients to comply and take it. My nutritionist/surgeon recommended protein supplements and not CIB so that was the information that hubby and I had from early on. Plus, I tend to be really sensitive to carbs so I avoid milk sugars (lactose) and therefore I've always mixed my shakes with water and not milk. Hubby likes to make his chocolate shakes with Hood Carb Countdown chocolate drink.
Sometimes it takes experimentation to find what works. I don't like IDS Cinnamon Vanilla by itself but I love it mixed with leftover chilled decaf coffee, a splash of half n- half and a pkg of sweet n- low. Tastes like an iced latte. I wasn't thrilled with Nectar Fuzzy Navel but love it mixed with Crystal Light Orange Sunrise. Gotta be creative!
Good luck, Amy!

Hi again Kathy....getting ready to go see vitalady. I'm not doing the Profect right now....was just inquiring about it. What I have now is Pro Complex. Wanda said she mixed what she had ahead and the whey broke down and was really stinky. I didn't have that problem. The only thing I noticed was that when it was mixed with the one I don't like, the ruby red, where I noticed the albumen smell...the product separated from the crystal light and I had to keep shaking as I drank. That didn't happen with the tangerine-strawberry or the orange sunrise. I know that smell is albumen because I'm a professional cake decorator and it smells just like meringue powder that you make royal icing with. I'll post again when I see what vitalady says. Thanks! and uh....GO STEELERS!!! (sorry hawks fans!)
I am also pro-op. I have found I like the Matrix 5.0 chocolate. I mix it with sugar free Carnation instant breakfast chocolate and skim milk. It makes a nice thick milky drink. It reminds me of slim fast which I totally loved. But I have only found Matrix on line. cals 120, carbs 3g, sugar 2g, protein 22 g http://www.wholesalesupplementstore.com/syntrax-matrix.html?ipsrc=media&reftype=pp&sptype=gg
This is one of the sites I found it on. Take care and God Bless.

Kirsten,
The first comment I'll make about protein is that EVERYONE has a special relationship with their protein supplements. Some hate them all... some like a particular few... I personally haven't found one I DON'T like, although I've found a few that I really love.
Second, to get an idea of the various flavors, tastes, etc. I visited several web sites (bariatriceating.com; vitalady.com; profect.com) and ordered sample packets. Some will give you free, others charge, but I figured it was worth paying for a variety of packets than forking over lots of money and getting one flavor that I end up not crazy about. Another thing is that I have found the I don't like having the same thing twice in one day or even two days in a row (I've heard this comment from a few other post-ops as well)
Third, my favorites so far are the Matrix chocolate flavors, Nector fuzzy navel, latte cappucino, and ice tea (really want to try the orange cream flavor.) Also love the AchievOne Mocha Java latte (20g protein, 5 carbs, premade in an individual serving bottle.)
Good luck and happy test tasting!!
