I will be havinf my surgery at Potomac Hospital with Dr. Halmi. I know I asked how you like Dr. Halmi and I do feel blessed to have him. How was your hospital stay? I live about an hour away. I hope the ride home will be as pain free as it can be. lol I would love to hear how your stay was at the hospital.

Dr Halmi is a good surgeon      You must make sure the anestisist is well qualified.    I had a none bariatric surgery at Potomac and the anestisist was incompetant.    Doctor advised of the complitations for intebation.

Dr Halmi has surgicval rights at Fair Oaks    Superior anesisists and all are trained in Bariatric complications.   Highly suggest you go to Fair Oaks   You want the best.   Go to Fair Oaks

Best of luck   Keep in touch

Kendra I agree with Caroline..I would go for surgery at Fair oaks. I do not like Potomac hospital and would not trust them with my life nor my kids life. The ride home is kind of bumpy if you have to go over speed bumps other than that it was fine i didnt have any trouble with the ride home.

Thanks  Megan        My comments were not  out of spite but for someone to not get hurt as I did.   The cheif anesisist and asst. were involved in my surgery.   Doctor filed a complaint as they lied on the official reports.     I have spoken to other doctors who have left Potomac due to the same kind of experience I have gone through.

The surgeons are not the problem.   To have a quality surgury you need a highly qualified anestisist.... We are heavy and require intebation.... our airways are narrow.

Fair Oaks Hospital requires all anesisists to be bariatric trained ... I have absollutely no trama with the last 3 surgerys at Fair Oaks.... The hospital is 1st rate and WLS patients are hi risk and need just that 1st rate !

Potomac is now a Bariatric Center of Excellence.  I think that the new Bariatric center there includes bariatric trained anesthesiologists.  I'm sorry you had a bad experience in the past.  I live in Woodbridge, but drove to Fredericksburg to have my baby because of concerns about Potomac.  I am feeling much better about WLS there, because it is a self contained unit.

I went to the Expo today and asked one of the surgeons and the nurse who is in charge of the Bariatric Unit, both assured me that the anesthesiologists were very well versed in working with bariatric patients.

I also met several patients who had WONDERFUL experiences at Potomac!  I am not at all worried!  The bariatric floor was interesting.  Their beds are specially designed for bariatric patients and can morph into a chair!

Kendra,

I had my gastric bypass surgery at Potomac Hospital and I received great care. The OR staff are very well qualified, the recovery room staff are great. The nurses on the surgical unit are fantastic.

Now that the hospital is Sentara Potomac Hospital, there have been a lot of changes for the better.

Do not let us sway you one way or another regarding your choice of hospital, make your decision on where you will feel the most comfortable and where you feel you will receive the best care.
