Hello from another newbie
Let me introduce myself. My name is Jackie. I am a single mother of two daughters. My oldest is 18 and my youngest is 10. We live in Yorktown. I am in the beginning stages of WLS. I have been to the Orientation and my 1st appt with the surgeon. July 8th I have my appt with the Nutritionist. Next week I call to make an appt for my Psyc Eval. So it's coming along.
I do have a few questions. What can I expect from the Nutritionist and Psyc Eval appointment? How do you deal with the love affair that most of us have with food? How long were you out of work after surgery? Did anyone on here have surgery at Portsmouth Naval Hospital? I guess that's all for now.

Welcome, Jackie. At the Nut appt she will go over with you what you can expect from your after surgery to your new lifelong food changes that you will be making. The psyc eval basicly wants to determine that you are educated in your decision, a non-drinker, can follow the life-long quidelines of a bypass surgery patient(take your vitamins, eat approproate foods, ect.) and are dedicated to the weightloss. It's tough to change the food obsession. A few people unfortunately replace their obsesssion with bad habits, others with good hobbies. You will feel more like exercising as you start to loose weight and it helps to focus on good healhy foods rather than fatty, high calorie foods. As far as being out of work goes, I've seen people on here talk about going to work after a week.My personal experience was such that I would not have been able to work comfortably for 5 weeks. So it all depends on complicatons and plain just how you feel. I hope your experience is a joyous one and the best advice I can give you is LEARN,LEARN,LEARN! The more you know about what you are about to experience will give you much more confidence and success in your weight loss journey.
