Acid/Pain
I finally decided to have RNY because of diabetis being out of control. My surgery was Dec 14th 2009. So Im almost 3 weeks out. Since before week 2, I have had tremendous amount of gas but also acid pains that almost make me faint.
I went to Docotr's appointment and they said it was because I was not taking my antiacid and this could cause a hole or perforation on the pouch. I asked how would I know? she said "I can tell bye looking at you teht you do not have a hole".
Well Im taking my antiacid regulary and some other meds. But Im still having it, even when I drink water. Any suggestions? please help
Thank you kindly and may all have a blessed, happy New year
Marisa
Gas ex tabs may be helpful. I did not have that issue though. Make sure while eating or drinking you are taking it slow and not sucking in air. No straws. Drinking slow sips.
Keep in touch and let us know of your progress. Happy New year
Keep up with the antacid meds they are imparitive. I have two ulcers. One is just on the surface and then I have another one that is deep in the intestine wall. If you are having pains when drinking and eating you may need to have an endoscopy. Do you have a PPO? You may need to see a gastronologist. I am working with a Gastro Doctor and my surgeon..
Have you ever had acid issues before surgery? Have you ever had a endoscopy of your throat? If not do no pursume that acid is part of the norm. Melissa's suggestion to work with your ppo and surgeon is important. If the nexium does not work within the week or you are getting worse contact your ppo, surgeon or gastro specialist.
Take care
I agree with Cindy, if you are in unbareable pain, go to the ER. Call your surgeon and see if you can get in sooner. Call or PCP and see if you can get in to see that person. Your surgeon should be able to see you ASAP is you are in that much pain.
Marisa, you can't have an ulcer yet but it sounds like your anti acid medication that they give you right after surgery for a few weeks may not be strong enough - if you are taking it regularly that is....
I doubt they can tell by looking at you if you have a hole lol However unattended acid like this can lead to ulcers so you need to get it attended to now.... and it can really burn if you don't get help now... and make you feel very miserable......
If you are feeling so bad I suggest you call your gastric surgeon now and get advice - or if there is no answer - go to the ER and explain you need some strong anti acid medication that is safe for puches - - you should not try to buy any OTC stuff as there are some kinds they don't like us to take and your surgeon may have a preference....
Good luck and please dont leave this unattended.......
