Hi, I just found this board.

I have been in the process of having gastric bypass surgery. I have been insurance approved and now have a surgery date of July 13th.

Does anyone have any suggestions about the two week liquid before the surgery.  I start on Monday and would like to be prepared.

Thank you!
Carol

Welcome Carol and congrats on your surgery date.  My surgeon had me on Optifast that l had to purchase through the office.  All dr's are different on what they like to use - just go with what he suggests.   Hope your recovery is a quick one.  Don't be a stranger.

Carol, welcome to the board!!! Congratulations on your upcoming surgery date. Every surgeon has different techniques, so just ask your surgeon what he would like for you to do.
Keep us posted on your journey and feel free to ask any questions you have.
Peace,
Cindy

Hi Carol and Welcome!  I did not have to do the liquid diet so I don't have any suggesstions for that but wanted to wish you luck and send some prayers.  If you find the drinks too expensive you may want to inquire about mixing 8 ounces of skim milk with one pack of carnation instant breakfast, sugar free, and 1/3 cup of nonfat powdered milk.  That equals 20 grams of protein.  As for caffiene most surgeons prefer you to aviod it like the plague!  Before I got pregnant I had 8 ounces a day but then drank an extra 8 ounces of water to off set the diuertic effect.  I am breastfeeding now so still none but I will have some again.

Thanks Tina, I will look into it.  Mine suggested Atkins, WW protein powder and a couple others I had never heard of.  Since I am starting my liquids on Monday, I better make a decision soon.

I am very excited this has been a long journey, I am getting a little bit nervous.

Did you live close to the hospital?  I live more than 2 hours away, so we will have to stay in Hospitality House for 5 days after I get out of the hospital.

Trying to get everything in order before we have to go on the 12th.
Thanks,
Carol

Slim Fast was also on the list.

The manual I received also said to start weaning myself off of caffeine.  Yikes, that is going to be difficult.  How long did you all have to be off of caffinated coffee/?

welcome!!  My doctor gave us a list of approved liquid protein shakes prior to the start of the pre-op liquid diet.  I chose the Slimfast Low Carb option.  I think that's what it was called.  They requested us to do 5 per day.  I admit, I could only get 4 down and that was a struggle.  But i got through it!  Congrats on the surgery date and know that the first couple days of liquids are a struggle.  I started on a monday and by wednesday I got over the hump and wasn't an irate ***** anymore.  LOL.  GOOD LUCK and keep us informed on how you are doing!!
