Anyone from the Lynchburg area?

I'm moving back to the Lynchburg area from Richmond.  My doctor and support group in Richmond were fantastic and I will miss them dearly.  I'll still maintain my relationship wu=ith my surgeon of course, but I'm very concerned about a support system in the Lynchburg area.  I'm reaching out to the leader of my support group to see if he has any info but I thought I'd ask here as well.  So, is there anyone from the Lynchburg area?  I'm moving back after being gone for 8 years so I don't know many people here anymore.  Help!!

I've read good things about Dr. Kellum but I had a different surgeon.  I'm glad you have a surgery date scheduled.  Which surgery are you having?

I'm having RNY.  Which did you have and where?  Is Dr. Elliott at MCV or another Richmond hospital?  I have a dear friend down in Richmond on the east side and I get lost just about everytime I come down there.  Richmond is huge!!

I see you're from Amherst originally - I got married and moved out here about 4 years ago.  I used to live on Wiggington Road, off Old Forest Road, in Lynchburg.  This is a TOTALLY different area.  It has its good points (except last night when we lost power due to that horrible storm).

Nice to meet you !!!

I had LapBand at Henrico Doctor's.  Dr. Elliott is my surgeon and he's through Henrico Doctor's and St. Mary's.  Where on the East side is your friend?  Are you coming down 60 to Powhatan?  Which way do you come to Richmond?

I am from Amherst.... I grew up in the Town and am moving back there.  I got a job at National College on Timberlake and have to move back, eventhough I don't want to.  Yes, Amherst is just different.  Do you live in the town??

nice to meet you too!  Look forward to hearing from you!

She is on Eanes Lane.  I have started taking 60 as I realized that is closer to my house, and closer to where I want to be in Richmond when I get there.  I like it better, I think, than taking 64.

I moved out to Earley Farm Road which is really out in the boonies.  We live on the unpaved part.

How have you done with the lapband?  I wanted to initially go that route but have so many co-morbidities that my surgeon said I would probably have better results with the bypass.  I'm maxed out on diabetes meds, including Insulin, and I think this surgery will totally help that :)  Or at least I hope it will.

From Amherst, 64 is way out of the way.  Are you taking 60 to 288?  I think if you cut across 76 (Powhite Parkway) to 195 (Downtown Expressway) to 95 you would be cutting directly across Richmond on interstate without seeing 64 which takes you way out of the way.  Just a thought.

I've done well with the LapBand.  My aunt and I had it both done a week apart and we both think it's the best decision we've ever made.  Dr. Elliott originally gave me the option between gastric and the band but wanted my aunt to have gastric.  I'm a year post op and have lost 70-75 pounds.  I still have about 40 to go but I'm in no rush right now.  I've slowed down but it'll come off.

From what I understand, there are more food restrictions with the band than with gastric but they are easy to deal with.  I've also read that gastric can "cure" diabetes.  The timetable goes really quickly - meaning you'll lose weight a lot faster and probably settle some of your co-morbities quicker than with the band but either one is a lifesaver.  There is a doctor out of Hopewell who has done studies on the connection between gastric bypass and diabetes and how those patients who have gastric come off their insulin almost immediately.  It has something to do with a part of the stomach that is removed that produces the problem leading to diabetes.  I have a friend in Memphis who had gastric about 12 years ago and found the same - she wasn't in need of insulin any more.
