Okay, can anyone please help me out,  When I had my surgery I was told get the protein in.  I agree with that but my taste are having a really had time getting the drinks down.  So I have heard about the protein shots.  Can anyone tell me if they are okay to drink ?  and if so where to find them I have looked in Walmart can't seem to find them in there.  Is there other type of high protein that taste like a juice?  I am so tired of the chocolate and vanilla ones the thought of them makes me gage.  Sorry to complain just need a little help.

Hi Biker!  From my understanding the Protien Bullets are not the best type of Protien for us as we do not absorb them as well as we do the Whey Isolate.  But I do know of many people who do use bullets, even years out and have had awesome levels.

I personally do not like them, I think they are to thick and syrupy, but that is just me, protien taste are so indivulized.  I have heard you can add water to it so you can bring down the strong taste.  I know GNC carries them.  You may want to check the Vitamin Shoppe.

I like Syntrax Nectar.  THey have frutiy flavors.  You can contact Syntrax and they will send you free samples or you can order some from the vitalady.com (I think that is the address) for like a dollar or two.  I perosnally pefer the fruity ones myself.  GNC does not carry Nectar but the Vitamin Shoppe does.

There is also Isopure RTD protien drinks.  They come in glass bottles and have 40g of protien.  They are fruity.  I have seen them both at GNC and Vitamin Shoppe.

Both Nectar and Isopure RTD have the Whey protien isolate.

Good morning!  The change in tastes is very common post op.  For me -- initially what worked best was the Isopure RTD (ready to drink) bottled protein drinks that Melissa mentioned.  I know you can get them at both GNC and the Vitamin Shoppe (I have bought them right at the one in Central Park, which is relatively close to you).  I know that GNC used to carry the Nectar protein powders -- you may want to check at the GNC in Central Park, too -- over near the mattress store (near Noodles & Company and Men's Wearhouse -- in front of Borders).  I believe both stores do carry the protein bullets -- but as Melissa mentioned, there is some question about how much good you get from them...some people say we can only absorb a certain amount of protein at a time (less than these contain) and unless they are Whey Protein, they don't work as well for us.

Good luck and congratulations on the WLS!  :)

Just wanted to agree with everything Melissa and Cindy have said - I have lived on Isopure RTD protein drinks.  I got a 32 ounces rubbermaid water bottle from Target - I pour the Isopure in over ice and add water - sip on it all morning.  Gets both my liquid and protein!!  Hope this helps and hope we see you at the local support meeting in May!

edited to add:  I also plan to check out the Nectar powders at my next GNC stockup!!

I just went and bought 2 of the individual bottles to try.  I want to make sure I like it before I buy the big jug,  Thank you for the help, I hope I really like it.  I will be at the next Meeting for sure.  Thanks again for the advice.

 Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to let you all know....I am SO PROUD of you all. When I saw this post was filled with Bluepoint patients giving great advice on protein, it made my day!

Melissa is correct on the bullets, they are a no go!
You may also want to try the Center for Health and Weight Loss in Woodbridge. The web site is www.mydietshopz.com they have tons of protein. It is a good idea to stop in there next time you are up here for an appointment. They are wonderful at giving samples, suggestions and helping you along!

Keep up the good work!

You aren't complaining...you are learning!

The 'shots' or bullets don't taste good to me. My favorites are Nectar and Unjury proteins.
Some good places online to buy from are allstarhealth.com and bariatriceating.com.

Don't forget to take your vitamins, get in your water and exercise.

Good luck.
