So I had my LAP RNY on Monday,  I am very sore form the Gas and the surgery on my left hand side.  I have been moving around to get the gases moving does anyone have any other suggestions.  I am just very uncomfortable...  I have been trying not to take to many pain pills.  I just wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions

Hi, There!

Congratulations on the surgery!

As far as being sore -- not uncommon, especially so soon after the surgery.  The gas will go away in time...what does help is exactly what you are doing....move as much as you can and keep up with the instructions your surgeon gave you for post-op.  If you are concerned, don't hesitate to contact your surgeon's office...none of us here are doctors, and certainly can't give any advice in that realm.

Again, congratulations on the surgery and on beginning your "journey of a lifetime!"

Congrats Biker on your Surgery!!!

The best thing is walk, walk, walk!!  The next best thing is gas-x.  THe left side may be sore for a little longer because that is where they put the largest instrament and the most trauma done to the muscles.

Welcome to the best pack of losers you'll ever want to meet!!!  I'm so happy for you that the worst is over...NOW your journey begins.  Being a lapbander, I don't feel qualified to really advise you, other than what I've learned from being here for a long, long time.  Walking is your best bet.  Don't be afraid to use your pain pills IF they are needed.  And as Cindy said, when in doubt, call your wl team...just because your surgery is over does NOT mean their job is done.  Pick their brains as often as needed.  And by all means, keep coming here.

If you haven't been told yet, I CAN pass on an interesting bit of info that applies to anyone that loses weight.  Hormones are attached to fat cells.  As you begin to lose weight, those hormones have no idea what's going on or where they're supposed to go, at first, so don't be surprised if you become hormonal.  You might wanna mention this to your significant other...my poor hubby had no idea what he was coming home to every night, for the first couple of weeks...lol.

Bottom line, be patient & allow your body to heal...it's been traumatized & needs time to recover & regroup.  Follow your post-op instructions to the letter.  Walk, walk, walk...sip, sip, sip.

Aren't you EXCITED????  LOL

Hugs!
Ann

My advice is too take your pain pills!  There is no medal for bravery.  :)  When you feel up to it gently stretch.  Not too much now.  Bend over at the waist slightly and sway your arms.  Roll your shoulders and neck.  Reach up just a little.  Out whole body tends to get weary when we have to take it easy.

It is normal to be very sore and tired after surgery.  Be easy on yourself.  Loris

Walking is the best strategy, pain pills as needed.  It will help & go away.  Welcome to the bench!!!

Don't skip your pain meds.   If your threshold of pain goes up, it makes it harder for the pain meds to get it back down.  Keeping up with the meds allows your muscles to relax, which allows you to heal faster.  If you are worried about taking the prescription meds, check with your doctor you may be able to switch to Tylenol (I switched over at about 1 week out).

The pain in the shoulder can come from two things.   One they usually place your arms over your head during surgery so they aren't in the way.   If the surgery is long, this is a strain on the muscles.  Two, you get what's called reflected pain.   This is were pain generated in the stomach actually hurts in your shoulder, weird I know.   I found that a heating pad on my shoulder helped as well.  I am 3 weeks out from my band surgery and I still find that occasionally when I burp, I get a quick sharp pain in my left shoulder, that then passes.   But the constant shoulder pain passed at about 1 1/2 weeks for me, although it got less the whole time.

Gas-X strips that dissolve on your tongue worked wonders for me. Hope you feel better soon.
