This made my heart hurt yesterday.

Justice went on a field trip about 2 weeks ago.  She told me what one kid brought for lunch.

2 sandwhiches

2 packages of oreo cookies

2 bannanas

2 oranges

1 water and 1 ice tea.

I asked her if he ate it all.  She said he did.  To me, this is to much for a child in one sitting.  Sure the fruit is great, but even to much fruit is not healthy for you.  Maybe I am wrong to feel this way about what the kid had.  But that is me.

It is crazy isn't it.  We have a boy that hangs out with us and all he eats is fast food.  Last night he had a big mac, a double quarter pounder & french fries.  We try here to teach our girls better eating habits.  It is difficult.

Yeah, I took this as a teaching oppurtunity.  I asked her if she had that lunch what would she eat.

She told me she would eat one sandwhich and both packages of cookies. (still the kid in her : )  )

I told her the best thing to do would be to eat one sandwhich, one package of cookies and one peice of fruit with the water.  I restated, it is best to eat the foods that healthy for you.  And even through the cookies are not a healthy choice, it is OK to have them once in a while and in moderation.

Not knowing if he has a medical condition that requires him to eat this much, I would say OMG!  I didn't even eat all of that in one sitting when I was heavy.

That's sad.....

Wowzers.  I even think if you cut that lunch in half, it's too much for a child!

Ya know, it's bad enough when restaurants sabotage the public, but when a kid's own parent or guardian does it???  Just ****** me off.  I'm mean, seriously????

That poor kid is going to have a heart attack before age 20.  I am sure the parents must be morbidly obese themselves, or just let the kid pack his own lunch.

I used to work at a school and could see what kids would bring. I remember one day a kid brought a brown bag full of candy. It is sorta sad.

My son has to take steroids in high dose for one week out of every month for the next 2 years. Already been threw one year of it and every time he is on them, he is like a preg. woman. He craves food, and sweets, sours, and lots of them. (He has Leukemia) Anyways, he doesn't gain a pound... A few weeks ago he went on a field trip with his class and I packed him two PB&J sandwiches. One for lunch, and one for when he got hungry because he cant always make it til lunch to eat. He literally feels like he is starving sometimes. Anyways, my point is that we don't know if this other kid has medical issues or not and I would HATE for someone to judge my son or me without knowing any facts. Just to look at my son, you would think that there was nothing in the world wrong with him. He looks and ,95% of the time, acts like a normal healthy little boy. Ok sorry if I'm coming off wrong here, but reading this made me think of my own son and how other that don't know him may perceive him.
God Bless

Melissa, you are not coming off wrong at all.  Just like Jill said, without know his medical needs.  No I do not know what the child's needs on, and by no means passed judgment on him.  As a parent, I could never pass judgment on any child.  They are inoccent children.  Let's just say this child does not have any health problems, it is not the child fault at all.  The thing with it, if I did not work hard on my oldest daughter's (the one who told me) eating habits, she could easily eat the exact thing with no problems. She has always been an overeater, even as a baby, so I work hard with her on healthy eating habits.  And in talking with her, I did not say anything about child, inquire about his state or anything.  I did not want any judgment pass through to her.  I just wanted to use this as a teaching experience.  I asked her if she had that in her bag, what would she eat?

ETA:  I am sorry your son is having to go through Lukemia.  Is it treatable?  Many prayers for you and your son.
